The weather forecasters are predicting 24+ inches for my area starting later this afternoon. They are already advising people not to drive after 1900 hours tonight. Extreme blizzard conditions with white-outs are expected. Snow is suppose to fall at the rate of 2-4 inches an hour.

We're fortunate this is happening on a weekend and not a weekday when traffic is really heavy. The Patriots are fortunate that this isn't a home game tomorrow. They would lose about a third of their parking with snow piles that couldn't be trucked away that fast.

Well right now here in upstate NY, it is a comfortable 72 with the sun breaking through the morning clouds.

But then again, I am in front of my computer.

Actually it is 9 degrees below zero outside at the moment.

At 11:15 AM it's 6 degrees and overcast but no snow yet in the Northwest hills of CT. Forecasting 12 to 15 inches.

I got a haircut today. They had to shift everyone's appointment earlier to aoid the sn much as possible. When we were going over there, the thermometr in the Yukon read 5 degrees. I quickly pressed the heated seat button.

It's been snowing here for about 1/2 hour. A foot might give us a snow day. Will this be the 2000's equivalent of the Blizzard of '96? Who knows!

Everyone in town is rushing to buy provisions. They obvoiously don't understaand that SUV they're driving DOES have four-wheel-drive. That's how it got on all those rocks in the ads.

1:45 PM, 9 degrees and light snow just began here in the Northwest hills of CT.

For all you "Yankees" up there in the snow and cold, it's now my turn to feel sorry for ya'll. It is 68 degrees, overcast with rain being predicted for tonight/tomorrow in the "warm" state of Florida.. We then will go down to high 20's/low 30's for Sunday night. No snow, just hurricanes down here.

Snow started here around 11am. By 1pm it was coming down pretty hard. We probably have a couple of inches so far, with lots more to come.

All reports out of NYC say Long Island, especially the Eastern End, will be the hardest of all local areas hit by this storm ...

It's 3:45 PM, 8 degrees, and 1-1/2" of fluffy white stuff has fallen since my last posting. (Mentioned this to my son and husband just before I logged in here and my son says I should get a life! I told him not to get smart, stay the way he is! Of course, the two of them are glued to the TV and the UCONN game. Like that's so much more meaningful!) :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

1600 hours, temp 12 degrees snow is starting, already the ground is covered in just 10 minutes.

I'm located about 15 miles north of Providence RI.

The estimates for the Central Jersey Coast have been bumped now from 12-18 to 18-24 inches ...
Amazingly, the brunt of the storm, which has been ongoing since about 10am, won't even hit until about 1am, when the blizzard conditions are expected ...

Just a few miles south, tempts are bumping 32 but the rain/snow/wintry-mix line is well off shore ...

There are also unconfirmed reports of "thundersnow" and lightning down off Atlantic City. None up here ...

Here's a quick update from lovely Stratford, CT...(for those not familiar with the area, we're along the coast of he Long Island Sound about 60-75 minutes outside of NYC...depending on the traffic).

It's currently 18 degrees...it feels like 1 (gotta love the wind chill) and we've already gotten around 3-4 inches in about 5 hours...our snow started around 1:30pm. I checked weather.com and it says that we're expecting another 10-15" tonight and another 4-7" tomorrow. The good news is that it's supposed to go "up" to 23 tomorrow. I think I'm going to have a picnic in my front yard...

Went out about an hour ago to do the first of many trips out to shovel. Temps in the 20s (but a bit windy and the wind chill...BRRR).

At that time, we had about 7 inches of snow. Predictions for this area are now 18 to 24 inches, with the snow not ending until tomorrow night.

Suffolk County has declared a state of emergency.

I want a snow day on Monday!!

My friend was scheduled to be on the 5:00pm direct flight out of SLC to JFK. His flight was cancelled due to blizzard conditions estimated at an 11:00pm time of arrial at JFK.

Meanwhile, back at the Jersey Shore ...

We've temporarily switched over to that dreaded "wintry mix" as we wait for the second storm to start northward. There's maybe 6-8 inches on the ground and very soon the changeover back to all snow should occur.

We've been downgraded (after being upgraded) back to 12-18 inches.

New Jersey will be under a State of Emergency from 8pm until 8am ...

Snowing like crazy here in Bellingham (15 miles north of Providence RI). Looks like we are going to get a big one this time. Snowblowers ready, so bring it on.

Cape Cod is covered with snow and it's continuing to come down at a rate of 1-2 inches per hour.We're concerned about high tide tomorrow morning as it could do alot of damage in the low-lying areas along the coast in Chatham, Harwich and the Bass River area.

I'm going to stoke the fireplace now.

8:15 PM, 13 degrees, and snow measures 4 inches here in the Northwest hills of CT. Still snowing heavily. Eerily quiet outside.

I don't know how much snow we got, but there was about 2 feet of snow on my car and the drifts in my driveway were 3-4 feet in spots. It took me an hour and a half to shovel my driveway. Then I drove from Madison, Wisconsin to Chicago O'Hare airport to pick up my son from his flight from Germany. I am safely back home now. I safely dodged all the snowplows on the Tollway.

Almost 830 am here along the NJ Coast ...

To those of you north of here, PLEASE believe all the weather forecasts ... it is now snowing harder than it was yesterday .. PLUS you have the wind to contend with.

0500 hrs, cannot see my company car, except for the roof. Snow is over the fenders and halfway up the windows. Approximately 2 feet of snow on the ground with drifts over 4 feet. A silent prayer is said to "Our Lady of Ariens Snowblowers" for strength to get through.

0630 hrs, car has been cleared off and ready to go. Extreme whiteout conditions prevail. You just can't see. Forward speed is about 15 mph. I know there is an intersection there somewhere but really can't see it except for the overhead traffic signal. Suddenly, snow is coming over the hood. Who put that 4-foot drift there. Half speed astern! I can see the hood again. That is well.

0700 hrs, made it on time. Entrance to the rear company street was drifted over but made it through with snow up to the fenders. Not bad for a 2-wheel rear-drive car.

Surprise, no heat at the barracks! Burner repair en route with an eta of 2 1/2 hours. Such is life. I like it cool anyways.

What would Walter Winchell do? What about the ships at sea?

Living about a 10 minute walk from Rick's earlier report (Carrier Dome), there was actually debate whether or not to go get dinner. Watched cars sliding all over the place going there and back, and the final measurement somewhere around midnight for the snow on my second-floor window was 7 inches.

Ain't no other place like Syracuse...and I wouldn't trade it for anything else in the world.

Here in South Jersey we have about 10 inches according to the NWS. Just came in from clearing the drive way. My wife and I learned several years ago to park both cars on the drive and then we have a lot less work when the time comes to dig out.
Very windy now but for us its over. Greg I guess you'll just have to grit your teeth and go to school tomorrow although it looks like you are getting much more there then we did.

while we were digging out I went inside to get something and when I came back out my wife told me some fool had come around our curve in Pick up to fast and did a 360 right in front of the driveway. Luckily she was up in the middle of the drive at the time. I would just like to make a comment " Please stay off the road today, you are not only risking your life but the lives of others as well"

Just came in from shoveling (again).

We have about a foot here on the South Shore of LI. Blizzard warnings have been extended until 2pm. The wind is really blowing the snow around.

It began as the dry, powdery snow and around 9pm last night the temperature when up to about 33 degrees, so the snow became that heavy, wet stuff. All the branches on our trees are leaning. I shoveled out the end of the driveway by the street, and it was so solid, I had to break up the snow because it was just huge hunks.

I want a snow day, too, Greg! I work at a University, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I am in Rhode Island this weekend, just South of Bob and Bert (Grandson's 1st Birthday party). For the 3rd time during our visits this winter season, they have more snow here than we had in Central New York, where snow is pretty routine this time of year. I think there was 18" to 24", but it's hard to tell with the 50 mph wind blowing it about. Hope to get out to Point Judith if the visability gets any better late this afternoon.

1100 hrs, USCG assisting fishing boats in Cape Cod Bay. Waves are 17 feet and wind is gusting well over 50 mph. No sunscreen needed today.

NECN reporting 6-7' drifts in places. Gusts of 70 mph reported at Chatham. Many roads are closed on the Cape. People still calling about wanting to go to the mall or a fishing show in Marlboro. No travel recommended per the Governor. Low lying areas along the coast are flooding.

It's 11 degrees and cloudy here in the Northwest hills of CT. Stan and David just finished shoveling 12 inches from the walks and deck. Between 11 PM last night (and 4 inches of snow) and 9 AM today, we got another 8 inches. Roads are clear, but everybody must be home shoveling out 'cause there's very little traffic. Gather they got more snow on the shore front than we did which is a switch. I don't "do" snow, but may venture out for a walk--need to find something to take my mind off smoking. Haven't had a cigarette since 10 AM on December 30th (pack a day for some 40+ years) and have been fighting the urge big time for the last couple of days.

The snow is almost done falling but the winds are still strong. I guesstimate about 16 inches here in Groton, CT.

Well, we dodged the bullet this time. Didn't get the forecase snow here near the NC line, but did get some mixture of rain/sleet and a few flurries.

Good news, the sun is now out, it's still windy and cold, but it's heading your way.

We are in for the day, and will snuggle before the fireplace and watch the games.

Just checking in. Here in Woburn, MA just north of Boston we have about 26 inches on the ground. The outside of my house looks something like one of Gary Martin's frozen lighthouse shots with icicles hanging everywhere and snow all over it. :rolleyes:

We had partial sunshine around 1330 hrs. Mass Highway (DPW) is still out plowing because the high winds keep blowing snow back in the form of drifts. Some whiteouts still happening.

1515 hrs, arrived home to a couple hours of clearing some serious snow. The new (last year) snow blower is doing the job. Sure is cold outside and the wind doesn't want to quit.

2015 hrs, no more wind, Pats are kicking the Steelers butts, it's 9 degrees, the cocktail is cold, the wood stove is warm, and I have the next 2 days off.

P.S. Just talked with my friend in Citra, Florida and he said it's 37 degrees and dropping there. 37 would seem like summer around here right now.

We got around a foot of snow during the night on Friday. We believe the majority of it came down from 3:00 am Saturday morning until around 7:00 am. It was snowing around midnight Friday night but not hard. We had wind also. Then to top off the weekend we got up to -15 degrees this morning. It hasn't been that cold here in a long time. We live right near Lake Michigan so normally we stay warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.

Good thing the LHHC & Y Event wasn't last weekend. See on the Weather Channel that Salem got 38" of snow!

I think we got around 15 inches and some smaller amounts since, including last night. My mailbox post is either broken or bent as there is quite a tilt to it. For now there's enough snow to keep it "adrift"....

Thanks to my "new" neighbor Pam (daughter of former neighbor Vince, who passed away in May) our road and my driveway have been plowed pretty well. Pam is in the process of divorcing her husband of 16 years. She and her sons, ages 13 and 15 have been living down our road in a small cottage next to her mother's house since early June. Over the summer they winterized it. They seem to enjoy being here and we all enjoy having them.

Besides all the snow, which came late for us this year, it's the temperatures which have been the real problem. It was -14 one night and -9 two nights ago. Yesterday we hit 24 and it seemed like a heat wave. But the forecast for Thursday and Friday nights is something like -10 and -13. Brrrrr!

Tonight before it gets real cold again I have a date with Pam and the boys (scout troop)to go snowshoeing at a local nature center. That will be a first, hopefully not a last!

That's a lot of snow, especially for the Cape. I believe that I heard somewhere they set a record for snow on the Cape. We didn't get that much here. About 25 inches is my guess. Didn't go out and measure it, just get it out of the driveway.
