If you follow eBay, you will notice a few HL sellers from the United Kingdom. Have any of you ever bid on their items and won? I'm just curious as to the money exchange and shipping costs. Please share your overall experience with your overseas transactions, if you had any. Bob

Bought my Pharos set from a dealer in the UK. If you charge on a credit card, they automatically figure the exchange rate as they pay it. For me, the shipping seemed very reasonable.

Bob,
I also purchased my Pharos and three other UK pieces from a dealer in London. It might have been the same dealer as the one Jim used. They told me the exchange rate in email and shipping was extremely reasonable. The pieces arrived a lot quicker than what Christopher Columbus took.
One of the pieces had a broken tip and they told me they'd send another - which they did. They also told me to break the piece I had - which I didn't.

Thanks for the replies, guys. There are always numerous listings on eBay from people across the pond and I was definitely curious on how they were to deal with. Bob

I bought a Pharos piece a while back on E-Bay from the UK for $24. I checked with the seller and they said they wanted a International money order for payment. I went to the post office and they told me they do not sell money orders for the UK. I checked with the seller to see if she would take US cash. She said that she would have to convert that to English pounds and it would be another $12. So I went to the Riggs bank in Washington D.C. to buy English pounds. They did not have any small bills so I had to buy $30 worth which cost me over $40. I sent that to her and she shipped me the piece by way of surf mail whatever that is. Anyway it took me about 6 weeks before I received the piece. Never again will I buy from the UK. Live and learn. Hal

Hal,
Your post about the Pharos purchased in the UK is extremely interesting to me. I wanted to buy a painting from someone in England who is trying to give me the same run around relative to dollar versus sterling. I believe I will notify him/her that I am no longer interested. THANK YOU.

Hal, ...Thanks for the reply about what you went through to pay for the piece you purchased from a seller "across the pond". I guess some people have been more fortunate with overseas dealings but I know now I'm not really interested in testing the waters on HL's I don't really need. Thanks again to all who replied with how it worked for them. Bob
