Starting bid $1000, and reserve not yet met? New ebayer (no feedback)? I'm a little wary on this one...
(Fixed the number...my stupid computer sometimes locks up the keyboard and mouse for a few seconds, and I get strange results of my typing.)

Greg, I think you put in an extra zero in the price you posted. I think the seller is testing the waters. Unfortunately he will probably not get many bids with such a high minimum bid and no feedback. I'd only bid on it if I sent him questions and he (or she) answered them to my satisfaction. The person should have not put such a high opening bid and had a reserve instead- this way they would have a better chance of finding out what people think it's worth. They also should have gotten together with a friend who has some feedback built up on ebay. No feedback scares off many people- especially for an expensive item like this. Dennis

I agree the "0" feedback is going to hurt him. But I also feel that a lot of collectors would love to get their hands on the Gold Plated Pewter Southeast Block. I hope $1000 is low enough for a bid. I would put this one on my credit card for a thousand.

Super Dave from Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin? I'm sure someone from that area can vouch for him or you could check with HL home office or look in the Legacy's for a possible picture at the regionals that year or maybe Wiskeeper knows him. Would be a great pickup for some lh org to auction off at the Reunion for a lighthouse preservation project. That's were the big buck collector's will be gathering? lol (They did at Baltimore!) Bob

Very interesting! I will not be bidding on that one even though it is a much desired piece. My lovely bride won a gold Cape St. George at the regional in CT in 2001, and that piece remains in the collection. I did post a notice at the New Marketplace that I would be willing to trade the gold Cape St. George for a gold Southeast Block if some lucky couple won two of them and wanted another different gold piece to add to their collection, but I got no responses. If I was the seller offering the piece on eBay, I would set a reserve of $2500 and a minimum opening bid of $100. Then he or she would see some active bidding. I think there will be a few bids on this piece right at the end of the auction but probably the reserve will not be met. It will be interesting to see what transpires because we haven't seen a gold piece on eBay in a very long time. Bob

Unfortunately, the credit card fraud chasers have a McLaren F1. You're outta luck.

DO YOU FIND IT STRANGE?
The original post on EBay for the GOLD Southeast Block was posted with a minimum bid of $1000.
This was the first post by the seller, who also happens to maintain the eBay Store for the AMO Gallery.
Approximately twelve hours before the end of the auction, a single bid was entered for $2000 by a person who had made only one other purchase on eBay prior to that and it was from someone who sells Barbie Dolls.
I wonder … Does anyone remember the movie "Grumpy Old Men" with the dead fish in the back of the car? This smells like dead fish.

I know who the buyer is and it was above board. They are thrilled with the acquisition.
