$227.75 is the winner.

John Chidester...what are your thoughts on this? Seen anything like it? 5 years ago I bought a couple sculptures from Matt Rothman at the Lighthouse Trading Co., and, at my request, he tossed in several brochures from 92, 93, 94 free. Not to add value, but just because I was curious what they were like back then. I'm glad I've taken good care of them. Looks like Harbour Lights publicity items may be taking on a life of their own.

...or is this just an isolated seismic event?

The ADMIRALTY HEAD BUTTON is extremely rare. In 1997 Rutherford sold them for $125. It wasn’t long after that his source was exhausted and there wasn’t a lot of hope of buying one. Then ebay started. Ebay brought in a new way of obtaining rare collectables.
It wasn’t too long after ebay started, that an Admiralty button appeared. I think because of the price that Rutherford had set earlier dictated how much it would go for. It went for $115. Since the beginning of ebay I can remember only three times that an Admiralty Button had appeared. The highest price somewhere in the $125 range.
Many collectors have been waiting a long time to acquire one to finish their button collection. It has been over a couple of years since one has been on ebay (under the search name of “Harbour Lights”) and the collectors knew that this may be their last chance for an other couple years.
It would be interesting how many of the Collectors on the Forum has one.

Maybe we should just collect buttons? It would certainly give us lots more display space. Who knows the number of these buttons made? Are there numbers available on all buttons?

Over the years there have been times that I have seen this particular button go for more than $175... this button is the first and by far the fewest of any of the buttons given out by Harbour Lights.. most of them were probably handed out to non-HL-collectors and have since been thrown away.

$225.00 for a button?! I would not have believed it, if I didn't see it for myself.

Jim,

There are people who look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them how much Portland Head, Southeast Block, Sandy Hook, Cape Hatteras Mold 1 and Coquille can sell for.

It's all in where your coming from. As Paul pointed out the Admiralty Head button is very scarce- hence for those who collect the buttons it's the Coquille of the Buttons.
