Did you guys see the auctions recently with the pieces that had the quakegrip on them. Just goes to show how the littlest thing can affect the value of your collectibles.

Please enlighten those of us who are not sure what you are talking about. Are these repaired items, damaged etc? What is Quakegrip? A link to an example might help. Thanks in advance

While I am not sure I believe that quakegrip is a sticky type substance that has come into popular use in earthquake areas to decrease the chance of the shaking from depositing your collectible on the floor. I am standing by to be corrected. Anyone from California out there?

I'm here Jim. You're right. It's similar to putty that you can put on the bottom of collectibles to keep them from sliding. The problem I ran into was that when you lifted them for dusting, or anything else, it would tear off the labels. Harbour Lights was kind enough to send me about two dozen replacements. Now I just put them on rubber webbing that you line the floor of dish shelves with.

Actually I was referring to this persons auctions. They had 3 or 4 on ebay. Here is the link auction After seeing a couple of other auctions that were off the average maybe it is just a seasonal thing. Ya just never know with ebay [This message has been edited by orv (edited 09-01-2000).]

I believe these pieces had the bottom felt cut in four small square areas and that quake grip stuff was put on in where the felt was trimmed off. It didn't seem at all noticeable on the pieces in the photos but in the photos of the bottom of the pieces, you saw the four little squares of felt were missing and the white stuff was there in its place.

Those were my auctions, with the Quakegrip (Quakehold). At the time, I had no intention of ever selling them and figured I'd rather have trimmed felt than a shattered lighthouse. That stuff is great and has saved my collectibles several times already. I live in the San Francisco area now and the Quakehold proved invaluable once again, with the latest good-sized earthquake this past weekend. It was a trade-off that has paid off for me, though I realize and understand how it may be unacceptable to some collectors. Just some insight from someone in quake-country :-)

LindaSue,
I'd say it was a smart moving put it on since the pieces are around today thanks to the quakehold.
