E-Bay now has a group of 63 AP's up for bid. cool Artist Proofs cool Can't say as I have ever seen or even heard of that many AP's being in the same place. Also the first I had heard of the open edition Montauk from 1997. Way out of my price range but will be fun to watch. wink

OK, should we pool our money? LOL laugh I would love to have just one. Maybe if no winning bid maybe it will be broken down to individual auctions!

Well, I gotta say it's not a bad deal at $10,700. That's about $166 each.

A good rule of thumb on CURRENT APs would be 2x retail; these are closer to 3x retail, but how many chances do you have to have an instant collection of APs AND that rare GLOW Montauk that never made it into production?

I'm gonna bet that it doesn't get sold however. At least not with that high opening bid. I think the seller would have done better to offer them one at a time. Just MHO, however.

One of the "Forumites", knowing I'm looking for an AP or two, tipped me off that there would be a large amount of AP's going on eBay this weekend. I was all excited about it until I saw they were being sold as a lot instead of individually.

Through my eBay experience, large groups of items sold as a lot usually don't sell unless the reserve is low and the opening bid is low. No one comes to eBay to pay top dollar. Everyone goes there looking for a bargain, including myself. Then the bidders get caught up in a bidding war and end up paying more than they wanted to for an item. Then the seller adds on the shipping and insurance charges and the bargain price is lost.

I was sorry to see these AP's offered as a lot. I suppose the seller thinks it's worth a shot, but I doubt it will sell at such a high opening bid. Do any of you have that kind of money to part with all at once for collectibles? I know it's beyond my reach.

 Bob

I would bet that the person is a Harbour Lights Rep, or a very close friend or relative of a Rep, and would have first refusals on AP's when the time comes to move them out.

If and when they come on to Ebay individually, I know I would be interested in at least one.

But as a whole, Out of my reach.

No bids on the AP group as of yet. $10,460 would be a hefty starting bid. Not many of us can afford, or even be willing to dig that deep.

When the auction closes and there is no winner, what do you think the seller is going to do? I doubt you will see 63 AP's listed individually at eBay. Even if they were listed separately, how high a reserve would be put on each one? Then there just so many people that would be willing to part with their money via a high bid.

How many HL Wackos would step up to the plate and plunk down a large sum of cash to own one or two of these rare pieces? A good example is the Morris Island AP that recently sold for $85 on eBay. There was one bid right at the very end. I also saw a LaJument AP go without one bid at a starting price of $75. I would have bid the $75 if I would have gotten to it in time. Then there was the White Shoal AP that got a few bids including mine. I think the winning bid was only around $125-$130.

A reasonable and prudent person might think that there isn't a big market for AP's judging by what has happend on eBay. I know I'm interested in a few but not 63 of them. Time will tell when the seller makes his or her final decision on exactly what will be done with those AP's. Who knows, that seller may be reading what I wrote right here at the Collector Forums.

In the description the seller said "AP's of GLOW's are hardly ever for sale anywhere." Is this true? Does this mean that depending on the GLOW, that an AP would be more rare than an AP of a LE? confused

I've never seen a GLOW AP on Ebay, but have not been checking them out for very long.

I would like to take a moment and address some of the questions that have come about from this AP listing. I know this individual and have done business with him on many occassions. All of the AP's are purchased from an area rep and even to him, do not come cheaply. I know at least 5-6 forum members who have purchased AP's also from this person. He is an excellent person to do business with and does everything to accomodate you. As far as pricing, I agree with John. This collection is fully valued. If you compare to the AP's that Collectors World lists during their auctions however, Chris' minimum bid starts at $175 and the few I know the selling prices went for HL236 Old Mission $330, HL712 Michigan City $250 and HL Faulkers $175, the pricing does not seem out of line. Also, the person who listed the three AP's on E-bay recently for really low bids, I tried to E-mail with a few questions about labeling etc. and never received a reply so I decided not to enter a bid. I think the White Shoal was a great deal if in perfect condition. AP's over the years were marked in many different ways, nothing on the flag and felt, nothing on the flag and the regular HL sticker on the felt, AP on the flag and no sticker, and today they usually have AP on the flag and a special AP sticker on the felt. This is why I like to have a little history of these pcs. before I purchase them.
I do not think even Chris has ever listed AP's of Glows. Maybe John can help me with this, but I believe the AP's normally are not let loose until the pc. is retired and being that Glows do not retire, AP's are not normally floating around.
These AP's are in like new condition and that is not always easy to find because in some showrooms they are handled quite frequently. I hope this sheds a little light on these AP's and we will have to wait and see what the outcome on this auction will be.

Thanks for sharing that info, Kaiz. I can't blame the owner for trying to sell the whole lot of AP's all at once. It would certainly lessen the aggravation of trying to collect money from and ship pieces to 50 or 60 different people.

Apparently there is nobody so far that is willing to cough up that kind of money even if the lot of AP's is a great deal. I bet there are many of us that would love, and could afford to buy, at least a couple of them.

Keep us informed if the lot doesn't sell and what the owner will decide to do with them.

As we all know, this great collection of AP's failed to be sold. I have talked to the seller and he would like to try to sell 5-6 of the listed AP's individually over the next few weeks. The seller has been having alot of trouble with his E-mail and does not feel real comfortable on the computer, so I have agreed to list and handle any questions for him. He is going to try to see how the response is by me listing them on the Marketplace. The pcs. will be listed, with a short discription and he will consider offers on each individual pc. In the next few hours, I will list some in the Marketplace. Please E-mail me with any questions and offers for any pcs., you would like to consider purchasing.
Thanks

I have bought 2 AP's from this source in the past, one LE AP and one GLOW AP. Both were in pristine condition, and I thought were very reasonably priced compared to some other AP's that I have seen. I would not hesitate to buy from this individual again.
