This week on ebay the top Ten highest priced Harbour Lights are:

1.Hatteras 101 at $510 – In the going price range for a CH-2. Probably on the low side.

2.Point Arena at $305- Extremely high for this one.

3.Big bay at $212- The going price for a #700

4.5th Order lens at $201- The 631 is still a hot seller and holding its value.

5.5th Order lens at $185

6.Hooper Strait #640 reunion at $180.53- This looks like a bargain to me. However, lately the reunion pieces are having a tendency to run lower than expected.

7.Portland Bill, Pharos collection at $152.50- The Pharos can sometimes bring a good return like this one. Especially if someone needs one to complete collection. The reason that the Pharos doesn’t always have a high secondary market is that they are not well known.

8.Portland Head at $145- This has bargain written all over it. It is a Canadian made with original box. I am kicking myself on this one too.

9.White Shoal #704 at $132.50- This is an other one that has had a good secondary market that you wouldn't expect.

10.5th Order lens at $130

Hi Daniel,

Actually there is a Hatteras 102 listed right now with a STARTING eek bid of $1200.00. This ends in two days.

I post this here, because it's way too rich for my blood. I'm watching it though to see if someone actually goes for it. There's no information as to the edition number, but it doesn't appear to have a lightening rod.

Judy,

That Cape Hatteras, Issue# 102, has flag# 3748. I was made in Malaysia. Too rich for most people at any time with an asking price of $1200. The seller must be looking at the 1998 version of the Green Book.

Thanks Bob smile

I'll be really surprised if it gets a bid, but it's so off the wall, I have to watch.

Judy,

That's my thinking exactly. I don't believe that anyone would even make a starting bid at that price. However, I just have to watch to see what happens.

It's nice to see a few of the older pieces bringing good prices. It does make you wonder when the seller starts out with a price a connected collector would never think of paying. You can always find a few entries on eBay that fall into this category. The seller may be using his or her listing as advertising to get email inquiries about the advertised piece plus others that may be for sale at a reasonable price. Then again, a non-connected collector might need the piece and be willing to pay a premium price for it. Who knows?

That is because you are not selling on ebay.
I have seen a seller on ebay, sell the same HL week after week for a ridiculous high price(Old Point Loma for $200). Finally someone comes by and buys it. The Forum is a buying/selling/trading place for serious and mostly professional HL collectors. Ebay is a selling place to all types of people, Collectors, novice and impulse buyers. You did the right thing and did your initial selling on the Forum, but I think you have to bite the bullet and sell where all the people are.

Rich,

I must agree with Daniel. The majority of the folks who use the Forum already have most of the pieces that they want. EBay reaches countless more people every day -- some are knowledgeable and some are not. It might be worth a try.

Bob and Daniel,

You both know how I feel about Ebay. I get burned once and I can't forget no matter what I'm missing out on. It must be the "Coastie" in me. Eventually these last 22 extra pieces I've got will be gone even if it takes me till I'm too old to package them up. Hey, I got an idea! Make me an offer I can't refuse and I'll sell you guys all 22 pieces and you guys sell them on Ebay. Any takers?

Those words are absolutely the truth, Dan! It is the only way you can explain the variation in pricing on the same piece at different times. It is the difference between real money and vacation money. Most people are a little frugal with their real money but would spend vacation money less wisely. Maybe it's time for me to get some of my extras on to eBay again.
