Anyone see the show on the National Geographic channel tonight on the Miracle Lighthouse - Bell Rock off the coast of Scotland? It was a pretty good show and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I did tape it and if anyone is interested, I will glady loan the tape to you.

I wish I would have known the show was on last night. That ligthouse was sculpted as one of the Pharos Collection for those collectors that bought them a few years ago.

The show was mainly a documentary showing how the lighthouse was built. It was very interesting as the the rock itself is submerged beneath 16 feet of water 20 hours of the day. It was a very hard lighthouse to built but they did it. I think that they said it was the oldest off shore lighthouse in the world.

I caught the last half unfortunately! What I did see was great. Very interesting how they cut and shaped all the blocks of granite that were needed to build the light. Great documentary. Bert

Shoot, I forgot to watch it. I just unearthed my reminder note. It's supposed to be shown again on July 14th at 2pm and once again on the 17th at 6pm.

Done! Great idea Dave. I don't usually think about doing that as I am usually available to watch the show live. Thanks!

We're here to serve, Bert. I just wish we got the National Geographic channel as it seems there have been some cool shows lately.

Dave,
There have been a lot of improvements in televisions since the early 1950's.

Today I was fortunate enough to be able to watch the “The Miracle Lighthouse” on the National Geographic Station. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is infatuated with lighthouses.
The program documents the trials and tribulations that Robert Stevenson and his crew had to endure when designing and especially building the Bell Rock Lighthouse, which is located off the coast of Scotland.
It allows one to more fully appreciate the hardships that folks had to endure in order to construct these stately ladies.

I just finished a book, "The Lighthouse Stevensons" It's a hardback book on the building of Scotish lighthouses by the ancestors of Robert Louis Stevenson. Though they built many, Bell Rock was his crown jewel in the engineering it took to build it and the hardships the crew went through to build it.

I've had that book lying around for ages, and still havn't gotten to it. In fact, it's been lying around so long, it's an ARC (advance reading copy) from before the book was published. My mom is in the book buisiness. It looks really good. My stack is pretty big though right now. After I finish East of Eden, I'm going to start the school summer reading, leaving not much time for other stuff. Maybe in the fall?
