I was visiting my parents last week in Lady Lake, FL. Lady Lake, specifically The Villages, is a huge retirement area that continues to grow by leaps and bounds.

In the next phase of their expansion a lake and marina are being built. There is also going to be a lighthouse built at the marina. The sketches that were in the paper show the lighthouse bearing a striking resemblence to Sanibel and Anclote Key.

The Villages is a very interesting place and run by a very interesting family.
I recommend for anyone heading down I-75 or 301 to stop in and see this place.
It is a fantastic retirement community. The homes that are for sale are reasonable. The home is yours. Not turned back after you die but added to your estate to your heirs.

They built an Old Spanish style city of around the late 1800’s. They are in the process of building an other city right now. If you like golf this is golf heaven. The city has little shops and restaurants that look like you are in Disney world but the prices are very modest. After you eat dinner, there is always something going on in the town square, with live music and dancing. EVERY NIGHT FREE.
The thing that makes the Villages so popular is that they treat the people special and is always putting money back into the community. I am the Senior Architectural Designer on their High school. The School is for the children of the people that work there. It is based on an old southern plantation look and quality and beauty was put before money.
Chandeliers and solid Maple wood doors and trim everywhere.

sounds like an ideal place, especially with the lighthouse

Where in Florida is this place located? We may want to take a look at it, and give it some consideration.

The Villages is located on RT 441/27 about 18 miles south of Ocala FL. and 10 miles north of Leesburg FL. It is about 60 miles north of Orlando and about 60 miles west of Daytona as the crow flies. It is one of the best planned retirement areas in the state, but, also has a lot of younger and middle aged inhabitants.
