Posted as mis-spelled Split Rock #151 Canadian with Castle Studios Box. Buy it now for $2900

Pictures shows a Malaysian with number 1776.

What do you think?

Daniel-

I agree with you completely. I know the lady through ebay that is selling the lighthouse. She has been trying to sell that lighthouse to me for over a year, but that is a little too pricey for me. I have purchased many beautiful lighthouses in excellent condition from her, and although I feel some of her prices are a bit too high, her items has always been as advertised. I have already emailed her and pointed out to her what you have mentioned here, so I will let you know what she has to say when I hear back from her.

My suggestion. Don't buy the lighthouse shown for the price asked.

She has replaced the pictures and added an acknowledgement of that.

This must be the week for the rarest of the rare ones. A CH-1 and a misspelled Split Rock all in the same week. It's a shame she didn't put it up for bid instead of buy it now. Takes all the thrill out of it.
Maybe someone will have a nice piece to add to their collection.

Problem is she bought it at the peak of the market and isn't willing to take a loss on it now.

The lady who is selling this lighthouse used pictures from a lighthouse she had previously sold. The lady who owns it is adamant about her selling price and has turned down offers below her published asking price.

Does anyone have any idea what this lighthouse is worth in today's market? I am just curious. I have never seen one offered before, but I couldn't imagine spending more for it than a Coquille River or possibly a CH1.

Scott,

The Green Book's only edition pricing Harbour Lights listed Split Rock, MI at $2,700 in 1998. How that translates in today's market is purely guesswork, but like everything else if someone wants it bad enough, they'll pay a premium to get it.

The 2004 9th Edition Price Guide to Contemporary Collectibles and Limited Editions has the secondary market price at $3,000.00. It also has a Mold 1 Cape Hatteras at $3,900.00. Very good reference book available from Krauss Publications.

Unfortunatly, I think she's about 5 years too late to try and get that price.

Unfortunately, this is not a good time to try to recoup your investment on the higher valued HL's, unless you bought them for a real bargain.

Unless a sale is absolutely necessary, the owner of that piece would be better off holding on to it and hope for the best in the future.

 Bob
