Would you buy any?

It will be interesting to see if some of the Founder's Collection pieces end up on eBay. Perhaps this is why some people that purchased them are reluctant to list them with flag#'s at the CF. If you list your flag#'s then it will be easy to identify who the seller is.

You paid for them and you can do whatever you want with them. Would I personally sell one or two of my FC pieces? Never say never, especially when I received a piece that I did not order. Right now I will hold on to all nine of them.

Personally, I hoping we'll all have another shot at buying more FC pieces. I know I would prefer to pick and choose from what's available rather than the "pick five from tier 1 to get one" and "pick ten from tier 2 and get two."

Time will tell...

If I was unable to buy them at retail from HL, I definately won't be able to buy them above retail on Ebay.

These will be the opposite end of the price spectrum to those bargain buys of the over produced late 90's pieces.

I'm hoping to have a good year, so if HL offers another oppurtunity to purchase them at retail, I'll be ready. smile

You must take into consideration the fact that most HL collectors knew about the sale, especially if they were CF members. These folks would probably not pay big bucks for a FC piece.

During the sale you had to buy a minimum of three pieces from the FC at retail with no sales tax and free shipping. Let's say average retail was $70 so the three pieces would cost you $210. If the collectors didn't want to bite on that deal, why would they want to spend big bucks, plus shipping and insurance, on eBay to own the same pieces they could have purchased at retail?

Yes, you may find a few collectors that knew nothing of the sale and of the Founder's Collection itself. Will they dig deep and pay big bucks for the single digit HL's? Have you guys been watching the bids on eBay lately? Very few pieces are drawing much bidding traffic. Most everyone there wants something for nothing.

Ironically, I got one of the two HL 102's that were offered. I never let those go by without a bid or two.

Definitely, especially the higher numbers!

I think a lot of people missed it.
My suggestion for next round would be to have a direct postcard mailing to Society members(maybe even past ones) or Reunion Attendees with a webpage download of the CF Promotion (or pickup at dealer for non-PCers), and require the participant to get a signoff from their local dealer. That way you would be bringing interested Collectors back to the dealers(too). Any dealer I talked to, I had to ask about the FC promotion, and wait to get a list(Someone else has it). Dealers have to sell a lot of different collectibles to stay in business so they're not always fully focussed on Harbour Lights.

I'm not complaining(I knew). Those who chose to participate got better odds at the little bit of old inventory that was left. And if you were going to buy a recent piece (those who are not on autoship) wouldn't you like to have a single digit a retail if you participated(or 150% of retail when it goes on ebay)?

Thanks for the Founder's Collection opportunity Harbour Lights, Bill, and Tony.

I think we will see some on Ebay. Maybe a collector bought several sets just to buy from tier one. The values of the Founder’s collection will vary tremendously.
I think in general the lights from tier #2 will run with the value of an Artist proof. Somewhere between retail and $150. But remember the market was just flooded with the founder’s collection so prices are not necessarily going to be very high right away. Exceptions would be for some of the popular lights that several collectors would want. I see a Light like Cape Canaveral going for $200 plus while something like Point Pinos not even selling and most likely still available.

Now Tier one is a different story. I believe in general that if you have one from Tier one you hit pay dirt. Tier one has so many different types of lights it will be hard to generalize. So I will group them. Apparently the Founders collection from the fist 17 are California made or California mold. I would say these would go for $200 to $450 on Ebay The rest in tier#1 would go for around $150 to $250. Southern Bells and the popular New England pieces could reach $350

But remember it takes at least two bidders to drive up the price. So to get a good price on Ebay you are going to need two collectors that really want that lighthouse. A good chance is that those that can afford a rare Founder's piece already got it retail.

Just spotted a #10 Two Harbors on Ebay. States that it's part of Bill's founders collection.

This auction should be interesting. I do hope the current owner has a decent reserve price to protect his or her investment.

I don't think a low number 2-digit flag, even though it is the lowest 2-digit number you can have and a piece from the FC, would bring the interest that a single digit would generate. I feel the same way about a few of my FC pieces that have 3-digit numbers i.e. "008". Granted they are considered a single digit flag# but there are three digits on the flag. I cannot understand why they would have those two zeros before the actual digit numbering the piece.

 Bob

The numbering system you are talking about, is what Kim Andrews refers as “Place Setting”
This was done by the factory without the approval of Harbour Lights. It is found in the double and triple digit Southern Bells, a handfull of L.E.'s and some GLOWS. An “8” and a “008” is a single digit number. Remember 0 is the absents of a number. I feel that you should be able to call your “008” a single digit and expect the same value as an “8”. A matter of fact you may ask more since “Place settings” are rare when you come to Limited Editions.

Out of 300 L.E. and about half of them double digits I only have three that has the 00 before the digits and one is a three digit

Thanks for that info, Dan. This is the first time I heard the term "place setting" when refering to flags on limited edition. I do recognize the fact that it is considered a single digit flag but I know I certainly would like it better if my pieces with the "008" were just plain "8". Something about seeing only one digit on the flag that makes me smile.

Another HL history lesson learned!

I must be getting old, but I just went through eBay and cannot find this auction for Two Harbors. Did the seller have a change of heart? Did it sell and I somehow missed it?

BUT,...Does anyone know for sure that flag #10 Two Harbors was part of the Founder's Collection sale, or was it donated by Bill for a charity fund raiser. Ultimately it came from the same place but may have been won instead of purchased.

Does anyone else think the seller may have gotten more for it had it been a single digit flag#?

"Bill Younger, the founder of Harbour Lights, used to keep edition numbers 1 through 10 of each released lighthouse for his own private collection. Some of these, every so often, would be donated to groups for raffles, etc. This piece has never been displayed and has the correct box and paperwork." from ebay auction.

I think this was a donated LH for a raffle Bob.
I haven't seen anyone list a #10 yet??? from the founders.
And I do think single digits will demand more. #10 is a low number but still a double digit. 1 of 9 instead of 1 of 90.

Well I don't mind adding that the first CF Exclusive, Erie Land Light, that is currently on auction at eBay has 23 hours to go and the bid is up to $292.00. I would have never imagined the ELL out-pricing a Flag #10 from Bill's private collection. I wonder if such a price will bring a flood of ELL's on eBay in the very near future?

The seller never mentions where this light came from except for and I quote “Some of these, every so often, would be donated to groups for raffles, etc.”

With that statement I personally feel that it did come from a Harbour Lights event and NOT the founders collection sale.

Yes most definitely, I feel that lower the number the more it will go for. A number "1" or even a number "2" or "3" would have easily been in the $200 to $300 range.

I have the feeling that someone might have purchased the whole string of #10 on the first founders collection sale.

It's been almost three weeks since this thread was started, and we haven't had a definite siting of a piece (HL) from the Founder's Collection Sale on eBay yet. I feel that's a good thing because collectors weren't just out to make a quick buck, but it would have also offered an opportunity for a collector who didn't want to purchase three to own a single piece.

Perhaps Harbour Lights will break their silence and make some sort of announcement in the near future regarding the remaining FC pieces. I know I sent two emails to Tony in January with questions I would have liked the answer to, but I never received any replies.
