Several weeks ago we had a new member(Sue) post in the New Marketplace that she had a collection of 42 lighthouses and 14 Anchor Bays that she wanted to sell and the price was negotiable. Several day later she posted that the collection had been sold. The same day(Sunday)she posted that the collection had been sold she also emailed me and thanked me for my email welcoming her to the Forums. She said that she was not a collector and had inherited the collection and tried to sell it on the New Marketplace. She did not have any luck and at her yardsale on Saturday she told me a man stopped by and bought the whole collection(42 lighthouse and 14 Anchor Bays) from her. She told me that a few pieces that she could remember were in the collection was Key West, Boston Harbor, West Quoddy and Mackinac. The selling price at the yardsale was $1,200.00. Sue is from Boulder, Colorado I believe.

The same Sunday that Sue emailed me I checked Ebay and lo and behold there was a man selling 42 lighthouses that he had gotten from a collector. He lived in Littledon, Colorado I believe. Key West, Ponce, West Quoddy, Mackinac, Boston Harbor and a WHOLE BUNCH of other early LE pieces were listed over the next few days. Oh, did I happen to mention that Cape Hatteras was also listed? Well, to make a sickening story(or oberservation) short, and thanks to Daniel who I notified to keep track of the sales, this man has now sold the LE lighthouses for $5,173.00 and still has the Anchor Bays to go. He is now listing those. Not bad for a day of yard selling and speculation. Bye the bye, he sold the Cape Hatteras for $960.00.

This is only an observation on my part, but, what a coinincidence from the Colorado location and the 42 lighthouse numbers. I think I'll hit some yard sales this weekend and check out some estate sales at the same time. Anybody else want to join me?

I noticed it also but did not pay close enough attention to the individual sales or their totals.
INTERESTING!!!!
Sis drags me to garage sales all the time but I think that now I may pay closer attention and be more receptive to her trips.
I don't believe I'll be very successful here in this neck of the woods though.

He got a great price on the HL102 Revised on eBay at $960.00!!! That is a really high price for the HL102R..

In case some thought it was an original HL102 or CH1 , it wasn't, it was the revised version.

Paul,

I was going to bid on the Cape Hatteras Mold II. But the price went way too high for my wallet.

I never saw the auction. Was the descriptive wording somewhat ambiguous?

No, Bob, but if someone just read Rich's post they wouldn't know without going to eBay and searching for completed auctions, which version of HL102 it was that was sold...

I'm sorry, I never even thought to say the Hatteras was a mold 2. If it had been an original Hatteras that would have even been a bigger sin. I was hoping that a Coquille River was not going to show up and thankfully one did not show. That would have been the ultimate ripoff. I have never contacted Sue back for fear she would turn ill. I don't think that she will ever visit this website again as she had no interests in lighthouses so I feel safe telling this little story.
