Bob, is referring to the fact that apparently someone managed to buy a Coquille for $30 plus shipping, the way the listing reads and it wasn't him... Coquilles go for much, much more than that!!

Coquille River sells for between $1500 and $2500 depending on serial number and country made in.

John, was the original post made with no "SOLD' for any of the lights and then edited?

I don't think so. But it looks like the list was 'cherry-picked'.

Are the posts in the marketplace able to be edited by other than a Saint? Didn't use to be. If that's the case, either a Saint did the editing or it was initially posted showing 'sold'.

I didn't edit it, I think the collector posted his whole collection listing, whether some lights had already been sold or not...

Also if a Saint had edited it it would say edited by at the bottom of the post, no such message appears on this post...

I thought we could edit our own posts?
So maybe the seller is updating the list as lights get sold!

You can update your own posts in all but the Trading Post Forum, that is because when we set it up for no replies it also will not allow any updates except by administrators...

We have it set up for no replies so that people conduct their business buy email privately and it keeps the posts to the essential information..

OK, never mind. Here's an email I got from Ken Reese, one of our long time lurkers:

Quote:
I emailed the seller re the Coquille and other $30 lights and he responded that it was actually sold earlier at $1300 and the others marked sold were sold for much higher prices than the $30. It appears that the $30 really applies to those still on the list that are not marked sold. You can tell Bob Ott that he can stop throwing up now. Ken

Is it possible that this person sold all the high price HL collectables, and then came here and posted his/her list with the remaining lighthouses that don't carry such a high secondary market price?

I'm not a serious collector, so I don't know much about the secondary market. I only have about 14 pieces combined, (Harbour Lights, Anchor Bay, and Little Lights).

Sandy,

No one needs to check. But thank you for your concern.

I was just being upset with myself because I thought that I had missed out on discovering the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

In this case, I didn't even find the rainbow.

Here's an offer you can't refuse. If anyone wants to buy the chipped pieces and pay the shipping to and from me, I will repair free of charge just for the experience. In fact, to save some money, have them shipped straight to me for the buying postage cost and then all you have to do is pay the shipping from me to you when they are repaired. Such a deal!!

I've got all those pieces so don't need to spend the money for show and tell pieces. Thanks for keeping me in mind though.

Here's what I want to know...does the person who posted these items have ANY idea this thread is going on? Or do they just check thier email box, their singluar CF contribution made?

Seriously...thinking of this "side conversation" going on, without them knowing, kind of humours me. laugh

Greg, you just never know what someone might see or read here.

I just got an email from someone planning a kayak trip to Portsmouth Island in NC. They did a Google search and found my post on the forums here about using the Bounce dryer sheets to ward off mosquitos. Geez!

Hey Bob, sure glad you're okay!

Well, I'm late checking the forums today. My initial reaction was that they had to have been sold prior to the posting but I'm glad that Ken verified that - otherwise, I would be throwing up myself! There are still some really good buys there so I'm checking with him. cool As they say, the "poor get poorer" but I'll have some cool lighthouses. wink

I have been watching those on ebay to see if they sell and what they go for. Sand and Cana caught my eye right away. Sand Island looks to be in really rough shape. I agree that it would really be a challenge!!

Send them on John! I like a challenge but cleaning the dishwasher soap off of them will be the big challenge. Oh, that's right, there coming straight from the seller so I don't have to worry about soap.

The ones on ebay aren't so hard to get that you have to buy them out of the dishwasher. wink How does the guy get away with saying they are in perfect condition?! Maybe he did pull a Chidester stunt and thinks clean means "perfect"?

Thanks I'll do that...however I'll have to rebuild my funds as I did get in on this deal. Why do some of the early pieces have rods and others do with the same number do not? confused

The best theory I can come up with is that the more popular lighthouses had higher productions of lighting rods than the less popular one during the time period that rods were being attached. Also what lighthouses were out first also had something to contribute to it.

Example: The popular lights like Admiralty Head, Hatteras, West Quoddy, Sandy Hook and Boston had more made with lighting rods than with out. The Hatteras being the most popular Harbour Light had almost their whole production line with Lighting rods. Maybe a handfull with no rods.
While Cape Blanco and Burrows had the least with Lighting Rods. (Remember Burrows island was so unpopular that they quit production at 2563)

I probally could have gotten it, I saw it just 10 minutes after it was posted, but that would have been my third one. Even though I don't have a malyasian version I just couldn't figure out where I was going to put it.
