I saw this earlier, any bets on if it gets any bids?

I'd bet no. But then I'm sure someone out there has a burning desire (and the matching hole in their wallet) to spend that kind of cash.

I think an original HL102, 1 of 288, is a tough thing to sell on eBay. It's a great way to advertise it though!

That piece is a real treasure and I'm sure the winning bidder, if there is one, would want to see it before he or she laid out that kind of cash. Would any of you want that piece to go through the mail? That's the type of piece you need to pick up in person.

I saw that this morning and couldn't believe my eyes. That's a pretty steep price but I'm sure that someone out there will probably get it. The amazing part is that this person has two of them. Only selling one. WOW!

I think it's great to see the king of the collection listed again. This one only surfaces once in a great while. I think the price is a little steep, even if it was for a green tip instead of the white. If it was me, I would sure want a customer satisfaction guarantee before I would think about parting for an amount even near that. All the pictures and all the E-mails do not take the place of a real close looksee.

This is not the first time the CH 1 #91 has been on ebay.
Does anyone remember the ebay auction back in April of this year?
The Auction offered the first 101 Harbour Lights. The main lights offered were the:

Cape Hatteras NC # 91

Cape Hatteras - NC #497

Coquille River - OR #701

Split Rock - Mi (Misspelled # 67)

Burrow Island - OR - Misspelled #47

It has certainly been a long time since I have had the chance to post but here I am.I did a search under collectables then typed in harbour lights cape hatteras on ebay and it returned 7 cape hatteras lighthouses. A couple of them were glows but there is a listing for 102 for 4750, which you all know about and there is another 102 for 1000 and a 102r for 430.This will get interesting. Is 102 still valued at around 3000?

Here is the link for the second 102:

This is the first time I've ever seen two of these for sale at the same time on ebay.

Maybe with an Ocracoke at over $380.00 and with 2 CH-1's and a CH-2 available, things are starting to return to a more robust secondary market, at least for the older pieces.

Wow! I didn't realize there were two HL102 / CH-1's on eBay at the same time!

The first one started out too high at $4750 and I predict no bids. The second is already over $1100 but the reserve hasn't been met. I predict several bids but none of them will surpass the reserve price. The final non-winning bid will be between $2500 and $3000.

We'll have to wait and see....

Hi Bob,

I think your analysis will prove to be correct. I'm tempted to bid on the green-tip piece just to be able to say I bid on one once but didn't win!

Dan

The CH2 just went for $650.00. What do you think the CH1 will do?

That's nice to hear, JJ. I paid $450 for my HL102R several years ago and was darn glad to get it for that price. The way the market has been lately, I was worried that the prices on all HL's would be way down. I'm pleased to see some of them are still holding their value.

its interesting to note that the winning bidder on the one that didn't meet the reserve is actually the seller on the second one.

Yep, 'twas me. Hoped to get a green tip to go with my other white tip. Oh well, tried and failed this time. The reserve she had was obviously more than the $3,500 maximum I bid. frown

Wecome to the forum.
I think this will peak your interest.
Rod Watson listed all the Harbour Lights you can collect.
http://www.lighthousekeepers.com/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=16;t=000002#000000

Also did you know there are two Coquille variations.

http://www.lighthousekeepers.com/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=16;t=000206#000012

If some one was to try and collect every variation type of a L.E.
Below is a sample of what you would get.
Here are a few to give you a taste.

Split rock

1.Split rock misspelled with green roof with Copper Highlights.
2.Split rock misspelled with solid turquoise roof.
3.Canadian Split rock
4.Mylasian Split rock with lighting rod
5.Mylasian Split rock without lighting rod.

Admiralty Head

1.Admirality Head- California made plain brown box.
2. Admirality Head- California made or California mold in brown castle studios box.
3. Admirality Head- Canadian made in white castle studios box with green felt.
4. Admirality Head- Canadian made in white castle studios box with gray felt.
5. Admirality Head- Malaysian with lighting rod.
6. Admirality Head- Malaysian without lighting rod.
7. Admiralty Head- Malaysian without lighting rod and with correct spelling.
8. Admiralpy Head- Malaysian without lighting rod and with p instead of “t”.
(This was only the L.E.’s that was made for replacing breakage.)

I hope to do this some day but I am giving myself 15 years to do it.

Just picked up St. Simon's and West Quoddy from Sandy on EBay...
Hope that helps her funds to get the green tipped CH1 she's looking for.
