You guys and gals who post these great buys on ebay before you've closed are just begging to have someone else overbid you when you post these things on the Forums.
It's nice to share, but I'd keep the great buy under my hat until I've got it wrapped up.

Bravo to St. Member. Couldn't agree with him more.Had Ocracoke all wrapped-up until some "goody-two-shoes" decided he needed to do his good deed for the day. Finding these jewels is one thing getting them is another. Some things are best kept under your hat.

Rick,
I agree with John 100%. A sneak attack is the only way to win a war. I know if I wanted St Augustine, now that you made me aware of it, I would be bidding on it myself(but I don't need it so if you get outbid, it wasn't me).

I agree with all of the above. I couldn't tell you the number of times I've gotten into a bidding war inside the last 2 or 3 minutes on ebay. More than a couple of times I've lost out, or just said "foget it, you can have it." Once, I all but had St Augustine, till some SCHMUCK outbid me in the last 3 seconds! I ended up buying it from a member of the forums a week later, so all was well. But I agree, if you want it, don't tell a soul.

I've been an eBay member since the beginning of time. As a matter of fact I never had to give them a credit card number. They just bill me. I can't tell you how many auctions I lost in the last few seconds of bidding. It can be very discouraging. I guess people with a lot of time on their hands just wait it out and put their final bid in during the last few seconds. This keeps the bid down, in most cases, and allows them to out bid a competitor who may be sleeping at the time. I guess the lesson to be learned from eBay is to put in the highest bid you are willing to pay for something and let it ride. That way you will either win the object in the last few seconds or see it sold for a price you weren't willing to pay. Bob

I agree with Bob's technique. I can't always be around and online when an auction ends. It's not infrequent for an item I'm watching to end in the small hours of the morning in my time zone.
