Can anyone tell me what the FMV of HL136 Hilton Head, SC is at this time?

The 1998/1999 Greenbook has it listed at $480. However I know that most of it's prices are over-stated, at least at todays market.

Thanks for your help!

Stephanie

You're right - Greenbook pricing is overstated. In 1998 a typical secondary market price for Hilton Head LE was around $425 - when you could find one. Historically, among the Southern Belles, Hilton Head has been second only to St Augustine in terms of rarity/value.

My estimate for today's price is around $325. Look for one with clean white bands on the tower - many are slightly off white/yellowish. Are you buying or selling?

Stephanie, two have been for sale in the marketplace recently for under $200. That sounds like a bargain from prices just a few months ago!

That's a great price Stephanie! Congratulations on a great deal! (Or is this a sign of things to come?)

A year ago, you would have paid at least 3 times that much! It's unbelievable to think the price has dropped that much!

Ok, sense I did so well on this purchase, I’m thinking of going back for more. The person that I bought this piece from also had:

#103 West Quoddy, ME
#104 Sandy Hook, NJ
#108 Burrows Island, WA
#114 Great Captain Island, CT
#116 Castle Hill, RI
#117 Boston Harbor, MA
#118 Old Mackinac Point, MI

All at $120. each.

Now I don’t have the money to buy them all, even though I would like to. In-fact at this time I’d be hard pressed to even buy one more. So anyway my question is: If you had the opportunity to buy one and only one of these at this price, which one would it be and why?

Looking forward to hearing your responses!

One sale does not a market make. I wouldn't say that the 'price has dropped to $120'.

But Stephanie sure got a good deal. This may be a result of an uninformed seller or one who must sell immediately.

I saw that original for sale posting and thought they were all good deals, some more so than others.

It pays to check the Collector Forums Marketplace a couple of times a day if you're looking for good buys.

I would go with Old Mac. #118. While not one of the first 17, I think it looks nice. That's the only reason, it looks nice.

I`d say #104 or #108. Gee, wish I could afford more myself.

I would have to go with Burrows also. Second choice would be Boston Harbor.

For $120? Burrows, Sandy Hook, and Boston would be a fantastic deal at that price. This is a great opportunity for some collectors to fill in the gaps in their collection. Many moons ago when I was building my collection I paid the following: Burrows $200, Sandy Hook $150, and Boston $150. I was pleased to get them at that price.

The prices on these pieces will go up in the future, trust me!

At $120? Burrows would be the best buy in my book! It might even be a variation, which would make it a "steal" at that price!!!

OK Boys and Girls hold onto your hats! For your not going to believe this!

I went back today to see if that #108 Burrows Island was still available. And I wound up coming home with it for (hold that hat) $60.

No, this is definitely not from any post in the Market Place on the forum. But rather an individual. Whether un-informed or just want their money back, I don’t know. But today I came home with: #108 Burrows, #151 Jupiter, #177 (marked as #407) Alcatraz, #600 RED Legacy, #612 Roosevelt, and #614 Rose Island. All at original retail or not more than $5. over.

Did I do GOOD or WHAT !!!!!!!! I can’t believe it myself! This was a once in a lifetime thing I’m sure; just glad it was my lifetime!!

You did great! What a fantastic deal! Go out and buy a lottery ticket because you are rolling in luck right now!

The best thing about collecting Harbour Lights is finding a deal just like the one you just experienced.

If I could only find a Coquille River LE at a deal like that...

Wow - great deal! I am afraid that the law of averages is catching up with me. I found a sale-priced, but gone, item (127 Whaleback, NH) at a local company's 'other' store. In the first store, located in a somewhat blue-collar area, it was 40% off list ($60) on their closeout list. The second store, located in a more yuppie area, has it in stock at $90 with no discount. Ditto St. George's Reef, CA. Oh well!

Good going, Stephanie!

Nice going Stephanie! Not often does a deal like that come around! That's what makes collecting these lighthouses so much fun some times - the thrill of the hunt - not knowing what some store might have and at what price!

Hi Stephanie,

Great Buys!!! It's your time in the sun, kiddo. Will leave you some extra bucks to spend on "thrown rolls".
