But the starting bid is only $9.99, Bob. Makes one think he doesn't really want to part with the set, but may be "testing the waters" so to speak? Be interesting if the reserve is at the $1500 level or is more realistic. Suppose anymore sets will show up if someone takes the buy it now option????

Very interesting, Dave. I intend to watch this one until the bitter end. It should be fun.

Be nice to this seller. "This guy" is one of us. Maybe Larry is looking to pick up some reunion money? smile I just checked my Pharos pieces. They are signed B. Younger 01. The piece shown could be

B. 01
Younger

Smart people already bought the Pharos pieces. Really smart people (not me) bought more than one set! laugh

Thanks mombo yes I put a high price on them for about a year ago I recall these pieces went for over 300 apiece so I thought I try and see doesent hurt to try by the way the reserve is 1250.

I wish you luck, Larry! Stranger things have happend on eBay but in today's market recovering what you originally spent is being more realistic.

I owned a set of Pharos for a couple of years and felt the pieces were very well done. The alleged reason the series was discontinued was their quality wasn't up to HL's standards. I didn't feel that was the true reason because the set I had were really nice pieces.

I eventually sold my Pharos for basically what I paid for them because I'm basically a HL LE collector and the Pharos are not considered a regular Harbour Lights limited edition.

In the failing collectibles market, which has lead to the demise of many small gifts shops across the country, nothing is worth what it once was in collectors' eyes. The blame does not lie completely with a poor economy but instead with those who lower their prices to a point that makes collectibles worth just that.

There will always be a solid core of collectors for most any collectible. If those people could gather every HL in the world they could demand premium prices and get them, but as long as there's dealer dumping and people who are willing to sell their collections for a fraction of what they paid for them, prices will remain down.

At this time, I would estimate the worth of a five piece Pharos set at $375-$475 providing they are MIB.

 Bob

After reading the above replies, I feel like those people that shop Wal-Mart: I know it's not good for the area economy, it may put "mom & pop" out of business, no one in the competing market will offer benefits now and only pay lower wages, but it's good for my pocket book today!! Hey, I don't mean to make light of ya'lls "hobby/livlihood", nor do I think it's funny that people like Wal-Mart are the retail industry E-Bay cut-throats of which you speak.

I saw some pieces listed today for an opening bid of $1!! Of course they had no COA or box, but someone who wants to collect and sees that the market "ain't what it used to be", hell, who needs to pay $70 - $100 (or more) for a box and a piece of paper?!? Some others opened at not much more.

On the positive side, even though as I told Bob M.that I bought the Hereford Inlet Christmas piece for $28.86 (incl. S & H) recently on E-Bay, I also told Randy K. that I was still buying his East Quoddy piece though I had to sit on my hands the other day as it was taken off with no bids @ $24.99!

I'm the buyer of Bob M.'s Pharos Collection and happy to say I bought the 5 pieces from him when I did. I can also say that I'd probably be a bidder on that set that's up for auction now if I didn't already have the set. I don't shop eBay because I'm looking for a bargain (altho' I'm really tickled when I get one). I shop eBay because I'm looking to add to my collection and can't get many of the retired pieces elsewhere. When you're passionate about something, you'll pay whatever is required.

By the way, does anybody know if Bishop Rock and/or Longstone and/or Old Lundy were produced? Has anybody got any or all of those pieces for sale? I'd sure like to complete the set.
