Can someone give me some information about HL 700 Big Bay? I have found a former collector who has several older HL's for sale. Two Big Bay's. He says one is numbered 1995 and the other is numbered 5991. So what's the deal here? I didn't think that they wore numbered at all. Wore they? Or is he talking about the Year? Could this be a misprint?

Which one would you buy?????? And why?

Shortcake,

I was looking at the Excel spreadsheet that I got from the forums to track my collection and according to it Big Bay had an edition size of 5000. The one numbered 5991 doesn't seem right unless the list I have in inaccurate.

But I tell you what, you buy the one you want and let me know what he wants for the other because it is a piece I don't have smile

1995 is the issue year 5991 is the year backwards?

The edition size was 5,000. I think these pieces were numbered on the label, not the flag. Mine is still in a storage box. Anyone else?

According to the Greenbook Guide to Harbour Lights in reference to Big Bay Point,"Pieces were not numbered. There are two different Certificates of Authenticity: Version 1: Indicated hand-numbered which was incorrect. Version 2: The reference to hand-numbering was deleted."

I haven't taken mine out for Christmas display yet but I do recall there was no number on mine the last time I looked. Bring this matter to the sellers attention and advise him or her that you are very interested in purchasing Big Bay but the numbering is confusing you. Have him or her send you a picture to insure the fact the piece for sale is exactly what you want.

As a connected collector and forum member, you have a distinct advantage of checking on things some sellers and buyers are totally unaware of. By posting your inquiry here, you are definitely taking advantage of that.

Good luck!

Well, Well, I was hooked. eek Hook, Line and Sinker!! eek eek eek

As it turns out the seller was toying with me! I have bought several pieces from him in the last week, to the sum of $1,200. + and counting. Being that he knew several of the pieces that I am buying, I'm buying because of the LOW numbers. When we got around to talking about Big Bay, he told me that he had two! He automatically said that one was numbered 1995 and the other 5991. Then asked which one did I want.

Well, this sent me for a loop, because I didn't think Big Bay was numbered at all. confused I told him that I would have to wait a day or two about giving him an answer. (I wanted to check it out with you all first to see if there was something going on that I didn't know about)

He now says: "both are the same....just my dry sense of humor....testing your knowledge"

But I do want to Thank you MelJB, John and Bob, for your replies to my inquiry.

 Stephanie

To make it official, there is no serial number on Big Bay at all to indicate serial number. The flag simply has Christmas 1995. The label says Christmas 1995, Big Bay Point #700, Harbour Lights 1995. It's current listed value in the 2003 Collector's Guide has ie at $325.00. That guide was using 2002 data compiled by Matt Rothman.

Just for your information.
If you are interested in the earlier made Big Bay.
Find one with the early blue box style and packed with peanuts. Later on they were produced with smaller box and Styrofoam.
