I just received a mailing from Collectors' World Inc., Box 338, Route 6, Eastham, Massachusetts 02642, Toll Free (800) 421-4270 announcing their annual HL Auction. They will be auctioning off some extremely rare HLs such as: A/Ps of the complete Pharos Collection; HL 102 Cape Hatteras #1823 with dark grey felt bottom and "made in Canada" label; American Shoal A/P with paper bottom label stating it's an Artist's Proof (has 10,000 limit crossed off and 6500 in black ball point ink written on the flag; A/P's of Fresnel Lens, Pigeon Point, Presque Isle and Macquarie with no bottom labels; Navesink A/P; Split Rock, MN is very rare with no # in the flag area and miss marked with the wrong State of Michigan, light gray flock bottom felt and a metal lightning rod; Statue of Liberty A/P; and many more rare items.

If you are interested in any of these rare items, call Collectors' World at the number listed above and they will send you an auction list in the mail. The auction ends in the third week of October. Good luck!

Bob

This is an unusual auction with many unique pieces as you described. Chris and Marie are very astute regarding the variations of Harbour Lights and conduct a world class auction. Half the fun is engaging them in a discussion regarding the history of the pieces that are available.

There does not appear to be information on the auction - call them and they'll send you a package of information.

They do have their complete HL price list and availability listed. They always sell at retail on retired items -- other than the very unique auction items.

I took a ride down to Cape Cod today and visited Chatham Light and Nauset Light. I also stopped by and said hello to the folks at Collectors' World. They have many HLs on display and this gives me a chance to view them. I got my first look at the entire Pharos Collection. They have a complete set of Artists Proofs (AP) being auctioned off with many other rare HL products.

I was impressed with the quality of the Pharos Collection on display as well as the fine paint job on each piece. There was no "substandard work" on those AP's. They look great!

Give Collectors' World a call at 1-800-421-4270, and they will send you out an auction package. They've got some great pieces going up for bid. I believe the actual auction ends in the middle of October so don't delay if you are interested.

Chris Alex, Nancy Younger, Maria Alex inside Collectors World. You won't find a nicer couple to to buy from. They know the Harbour Lights product inside and out and always go out of their way to please.

I agree with Bob, they have some wonderful pieces in this auction as well as many Harbour Lights in stock.

And let me add. They have many retired pieces and only sell at retail. (The Auction, excepted, of course.)

I've ordered a few pieces from them and have never been dissatisfied with their service. They are both very friendly and knowledgeable on Harbour Lights. How they get some of there pieces for auction is enlightning to here. One time I recieved a piece with no paperwork. I thought they would never believe me. At the time, I didn't know about Harbour Lights 800 number. I called them up and had it in 2 days. No questions asked.

They have a great Auction, but not much time left. Both Chris & Maria are a pleasure to do business with and are very knowledgable about harbour lights!

I have had the opportunity to deal with Chris and Maria for just over 20 years on many different kinds of purchases, and I must say they are a pleasure to deal with at all times. They have never steered me wrong on any purchase whether in person or on the phone. Their knowledge of Harbour Lights pieces is overwhelming, and as stated previously, they always sell at retail.

I agree with all the nice statments above.I bought my first H.L. there. It was boston harbor. Before I went out the door chris asked me if I was interested in a retired piece. I said sure and took it. Guess what.I went home with hl 111 for $60.

Hey Don, ...Where have you been? I haven't seen you on the CF in a long time.

I spoke with Chris yesterday regarding the auction. He told me it was going very well and all bids have to be at Collectors' World no later than tomorrow, 10-15-01.

I hope if any of the CF members win one of these valuable HL's from the auction, they will share that info with us.

I sent my bid in for a few of the pieces yesterday.(Overnight mail) Has anyone ever got one of the auction pieces from previous auctions? I would like to own an A/P. I am curious to see what these will sell for and what price they brought in the past!

Anyone out there get a winning bid from the Collector's World Auction? I put a bid in on about 10 of the pieces and didn't get any. Many went high, but some were bought in the $200 - $300 range. Just curious if any forum readers were able to get the high bid.

Randy, I had also bid on a few of pieces that were available on the auction. The last quoted amounts on the following were:
Cape Hatteras revised $1225
Assateague #20 $510
Split Rock mismarked (paint sample) $3050
I felt most of the prices were way out of line except for maybe Split Rock. Did you phone to get final prices?

I had bid and won several of the pieces but the one I wanted was Split Rock. I had to stop at $3050 and with that I was scrambling to get money in the bank. It sold for more than $5,000. I thought the bidding at the reunion was something. Boy, was I once again surprised.

Kaiz, I called about the ones that I had bid on and Chris gave me the high bid on them. I had the second highest bid on Presque Isle. My bid was for $210 and it sold for $215. Chris reminded me that the high bidder might have had a range bid that went much higher. I would have really liked to have gotten the Assateague - but not for $510!!!
He also told me that the Pharos set sold for $3700!!! (Too much for me!)
I don't remember the prices on the rest.

I guess I will have to try harder next time!

Don, the Pharos set that went for $3700 was set of AP's. Still, a pretty large sum of money!

$3700 is a lot of money, but it's only money. And that is a lot more money than I could have ever afforded to pay for the Pharos A/P's.

Hi Don, ...No deal yet on a Coquille. I'm hoping something will transpire sooner or later.

I received a complete list of Harbour Lights auction results from Collector's World this morning.

[*]Set of 5 Pharos Collection APs $3,700

[*]Nauset Beach - standard issue - $305

[*]Cape Hatteras Rev - Standard issue - $1,525

[*]American Shoal AP $575

[*]Hereford Inlet AP $285

[*]Cape Henlopen AP $285

[*]Eldred Rock AP $400

[*]SIster Island AP $285

[*]Navesink AP $510

[*]Presque Isle AP $215

[*]Grays Harbor AP $305

[*]Hook Head AP $186

Thanks John. Nice to see one that I've got on that list. Makes me feel a bit more like a "big time Collector", lol!

Maybe the only way to have a matching set of the Pharos pieces is if they're AP's?!

John, thanks for posting the prices! You saved me alot of typing! I talked to Chris yesterday and he gave me the prices also. He also told me that the Split Rock was very rare and the buyer knew that. Looks like some pieces were bargins, but not others. What's up with the price on that Hatteras?

I looked at the Cape Hatteras while I was visiting the store. It had a gray-felt bottom and was made in Canada.

They certainly sold some rare HLs.

Bob M....I have Cape Hatteras (#102/edition number 2343) with a gray felt bottom and Made in Canada sticker. Is this the common version or is it rare? Any idea on the market value?

Thanks...

This is the more common one, but still in demand. Prices seem to range from $450-750. That $1500+ one at the auction was way out of line, in my opinion.

The gray felt bottom is fairly common on this piece - I say that because of your number with this color felt, assuming all below 2343 also have the same.

Someone else who follows ebay prices may be able to give you a better price range.

Thanks for the answer. I was curious. I have about 30 pieces and Hatteras is one of my favorites.

Did I not see where someone bought(bid) on a set of Pharo APs on ebay for alot less than that? Hmmm?

ARTIST PROOFS, not limited edition's!

Very true indeed. It is "just money". You can't take it with you when you croak and you probably will never have a chance in buying an actual lighthouse, so you may as well spend it on the very next best thing...HL Lighthouses! Of course, there is always donating your money to a lighthouse conservation society.

Personally, I would rather buy Owls Head, ME and live out the rest of my days in peace!!

That seems like a real bargain when compared to the Collector's World sale of $3700.00!!
