Was wondering if there are any new Collector Value guides for HL? Mine is a 1998. The 2000 book is unavailable everywhere I have looked.
Thanks, Joni

As far as I know that 1998 version was the last. It's the same one that I have. Many of us wish that they would have updated it, but it was not to be. frown

Hi Joni,...Many of us were wishing we had an updated Greenbook Guide to Harbour Lights. Other than its inflated values of older pieces, it was a great book. Unfortunately, the book didn't sell so there was probably no need for the publisher to invest time and money in a new version.

I'm sure you will find a more informative reply in this thread about where you can find an approximate value of your HL pieces.

Joni,

The best book on the market now I feel is The Collector's Mart Price Guide to Contemporary Collectible and Limited Editions from Krause Publications selling for $21.95. The current edition is the 2003 8th Edition but in about a month the 2004 9th Edition is going to be available. It devotes about 5 pages to Harbour Lights and is available by order from 1-800-258-0929. Hope this helps.

Hey Rich, ...Could you gives us a rough idea on how they list HL's and what kind of value they are placing on older versus newer pieces?

Inquiring minds on the east coast, where it's pouring rain right now, the Toby Keith Concert is at Gillette Stadium today, the Democratic National Convention is beginning in Boston, all time-off on my job is cancelled, and I lose a prime-summer week on the boat, but I'm off for the islands as soon as this DNC is over, would like to know.

I think we should produce our own guide. We all know enough about HL values to do it...we can have value info, lighthouse histories, piece histories, and all variations. We've got the collective skills...let's use 'em! laugh

Bob,
The Collector's Guide devotes about 4 pages to Harbour Lights and lists the lights by region and groupings(ie: Southeastern, Western etc. and by groupings such as Christmas, Society, etc). It lists the number produced, year, if retired, issue price and secondary market price. It also lists major variations such as green water, etc. The 2003 edition collected the pricing data from 2002 prices furnished by Matt Rothman so for 2004 they prices are higher then todays market. The 2004 edition should be out within the month and I'm sure it will have the prices from 2003. It runs about a year late on the prices but is better then no price guide at all or one that was printed in 1998. I went to the public library and looked through it before I bought my first one in 2001. It's held pretty consistant on secondary market prices for the year in which these prices were compiled but the prices are a year behind. Here are some examples of the prices listed in the 2003 Edition:

HL 102 Cape Hatteras $4,300
HL102R Cape Hatteras $ 650
HL125 Portland Head $ 595
HL128 Southeast Block $ 285
HL124 Split Rock, MI $2,100
HL138 St. Augustine $ 495
HL132 Ponce Inlet $ 295

It even lists GLOWS (UGH!!) and LLOMs. I truly feel it's worth the money but then again I'm getting old and a little bit goofy.
