Had such a good time with many of you at the Regional Event in Berkeley Heights, NJ on Saturday that I figured I'd join in the fun here, too. Thanks to WhelanD and several others (sorry but I can't remember names right now) who took the time to explain the forum to me.

My girlfriend and I have a relatively small collection by your standards - 12 large pieces and several smaller versions and ornaments. Plus, framed HL prints, lighthouse posters, and quite a bit of signed & framed lighthouse photography that we've picked up along the way. We also try to display at least 1 good photo of our own from each lighthouse we've visited. Due to limited space in our place we're in a holding pattern in terms of picking up more HL. For now we're only buying a piece after we visit that particular lighthouse.

Don't know what other info you like to hear about from newbies so let me know.

Thanks.

Mitch,

Welcome aboard! After you purchased your first Harbour Light piece you were probably hooked just like we were. We are anxious to meet you and your girlfiend at an event in the future.

Mich,

Glad to see your aboard.

Take a look around there's alot of info on these forums. There's also somebody ready to answer just about any question you might have about HL or Lighthouses.

I also want to thank you again for your assistance in making the Spring Regional Experience a positive one for many who attended.

Watch out , though the Wacko Fever might strike. Limited space or not. Actually the size of the collection doesn't matter here. The love of HL's and Lighthouses does.

Dennis

Welcome aboard...my wife , Sue, and I had a very enjoyable stay in your town during the Regional..

This Regional turned out to be what Bill Younger envisioned them to be a couple of years ago when he said he wanted them to be like a street fair and a gathering place for collectors to gather and talk about lighthouses.

Thanks, all! Glad to be here. I had only first joined the NJ Lighthouse Society back in February when I learned the Regional would be a mile-and-a-half from my house 2 months later. Glad I could help out. It was a great expierence for me. Too bad Liz was only able to stop by for about 10 minutes. We've been HL Members (under her name) for about 4 or 5 years so we look forward to events like this.

Anytime you all need any addiitonal help, just drop me a line and I'll do what I can.

Looking forward to the June meeting and a few more lighthouse visits. I guess it's time for this newbie to start posting on the regular boards and begin earning my Connected Collector badge. Liz says I'm already a wacko (although I don't think she's meaning it in the same way as you).

Welcome aboard, Mitch! Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make the regional and meet you, but maybe next year.

I'll look forward to reading your posts in the future.

Mitch,

You don't have to wait - you can order your Connected Collector badges now!

Think I also spoke with you at the regional. Glad you found your way here to the Forums. Don't forget to also visit www.HarbourLights.com for lots of great info on HL and their product.

Hi Mitch and welcome aboard. We are certainly glad you have joined us. No collection is too big, no collection is too small. As long as you love Harbour Lights, that's all that counts.

Dave H - I'll get around to ordering a badge one of these days. And I do go on the HL website, although not as often as I'd like.

I too am a new member of the Forum and attended the Berkeley Hieghts event. I was totally lost never having been to one. I only have about seven HL but I did win a signed Fort Tompkins from the raffle. Maybe I will get to meet you sometime Mitch since we are both from NJ

Congrats, Arlene on the sweet win! I don't know if I'll be at the next NJ event (scheduling conflicts all over the place) but I'll be sure to look for you if I'm there.

Welcome from a newbie from Minnesota!

Like you, I started collecting only the lights that I'd visited. Then it grew to the lights I planned to visit. Then I started buying lights I thought were interesting...

I've had 5 x 7 enlargements made of every lighthouse I've visited. I'm not sure where or how I'm going to display them yet.

I've never traveled to the East coast (except the JFK airport once). So, I'm eager to see your pictures and hear about the lighthouses there...

Hi Mitch,

Welcome to the Forums. I don't know how your post got by me but welcome. Always good to have another Lighthouse wacko in the forums. The newbie status doesn't last long because there is so much here to post about. Looking forward to hearing more from you. So Keep posting and as you said join in on the fun here too.

Thanks again, all! Already love it here.

Gary - I can't get over how consistently great your photos are. One day I'm going to pick your brain as to equipment, film, etc. I used to fancy myself a strong photographer but not after seeing alot of the images posted here in my few shorts weeks on board.

Mitch,

You're more than welcome to pick my brain any time re photography/cameras/lenses/film/exposure, etc. For whatever it's worth, I shoot with Nikon cameras, at this point a pair of F5's, and predominantly Nikon lenses that range from a 14 mm f2.8 ultrawide angle to a monster 500 mm f4 that weighs nearly 20#! For film I shoot my lighthouse stuff exclusively on Fuji film, about 50-60% on Provia 100F, about 30-40% on Velvia (iso 50) and the rest on Provia 400F when I need high shutter speeds, as in for waves breaking over lighthouses!

There are about 80 or so of my photos in my gallery on the Shutter City website which the following URL will take you directly to:

http://www.shuttercity.com/ShowGallery.cfm?AcctID=3940

Most of what is in the Shutter City gallery is lighthouse photos along with a few swan and other bird pics.

I don't know if you're going to the Rosemont collector's meeting in late June, but there are a bunch of folks from the forums who are headed to Door County, Wisconsin to go lighthousing for various portions of the week prior to the Rosemont weekend. I'm going up to do some serious lighthouse photography on Door County's 10 (ten) lighthouses prior to Rosemont. I've heard a rumor that there are some folks who are planning to do some picking of my brain on matters photographic at the point. You're more than welcome to join in the fun if you can make the time. If you want more information or to chat further about Door County or photography in general, feel free to e-mail me or a lot of nights you can find me on AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) logged on as lighthouse_photo.

All the best,
Gary

Thanks, Gary! Won't be able to make it to Rosemont so I'll have to take a raincheck on the group outing. I'll be checking out your "gallery" soon and making a few mental notes about your equipment. Right now I'm going back-and-forth between my old trusty Konica FS-1, my girlfriend's Pentax K-1000, and my HP digital camera. Will have to start saving up for some newer, more advanced gear.

And I'll be sure to pop you some questions now and again.
