Hello. Thanks for the warm welcome. Although I live in Maryland, I'm a New Jersey native and blame Old Barney for getting me hooked on lighthouses. (Also my first Harbour Lights) Through the years, my husband and I have been privileged to have some wonderful lighthouse experiences, including being Volunteer Keepers at Cape Lookout NC, and spending a week at the St. Helene, MI lighthouse. Each summer we travel somewhere new and add a few more to the list. Oh...in case your wondering, Rmillermusic is just a name I picked up along the way.....I teach elementary music in the public school system. Thanks for the great website....I've been reading and trying to catch up with the news. Rebecca

The wife and I are coming up your way for the Maryland Lighthouse Challenge. What's your favorite Maryland Lighthouse?

I'm partial to the lighthouses in Calvert County (where we lived for 7 years previous) including Drum Point in Solomons and Cove Point in Lusby. Drum Point would be my first pick - since it is part of the museum and you can tour the entire lighthouse - and it is beautifully restored. Solomons Island is also a beautiful place to spend some time relaxing along the water or going to dinner. Cove Point is not open to the public, but you can catch a glimpse from the gate, or better yet...walk up along the beach for a great shot. A trip out to see Thomas Point is also a great pick....best at sunset - awesome pictures! Enjoy the beautiful state of Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay. I'm sure the Challenge will be awesome. Rebecca

Rebecca, it's refreshing to have a new person just jump right in and start sharing. This is a great web site with some really great people. Looks like you will fit right in...welcome aboard.

I had the chance to take a "girls trip" this summer with my two sisters to Delaware (on route to Jersey via the ferry) and got to "re-see" the two lights. The park is always a beautiful site also....I would like to get there with my bike one day and do some riding. We also made a quick stop and saw the lightship....of course eating lunch, getting ice cream and shopping in downtown Lewes was top priority also. Did I miss any other maritime landmarks in the Lewes area? It's really a nice place!
