Good evening, fellow lighthouse lovers, I am new to the list but have been lurking and reading the messages for a little bit. I finally decided to join and let you know that I have been lurking. I live in central NY and developed a love for lighthouses accidentally last summer. I went up to Boston to go on a whale watch and decided to take the lighthouse cruise too -- and voila! I was hooked!! I then met another lady from this list, Beaconfollower, from Syracuse and joined a lighthouse group and the rest is history. My friend and I have been visiting alot of lights here in central NY and are actually hoping to get to Michigan in October for the Festival (my husband doesn't know it yet tho). I thank you all for allowing me to read your posts and learn more about lighthouses! I don't collect anything but the pictures of them because I just don't have any room to display them plus the thought of having to dust them is something that doesn't sound like fun! Hope to meet all of you in person someday. Carol

Welcome to the forums Carol! It's good to have you. There are a lot of great people here, with a wide variety of opinions and outlooks, as I'm sure you've already seen. As far as the collecting goes, the dusting part really isn't that bad. It's the space that kills you. I must tell you this though - every time I get a new HL I feel like a little wide-eyed kid on Christmas morning. Once you buy one, you're hooked. Anyway, I look forward to reading your posts.

Carol, welcome to the Forums! I think most of us got the bug the same way. I have learned much in my short time here. We will likely go to Alpena in Oct. also, maybe we can see you there!

After I sent my intro in, I sort of remembered the name of the group "collector's forum" and wished that I could delete that line about not really collecting lighthouses. I hope that no one will hold that against me, I just don't have the room plus with 4 dogs, they would not stay in one piece. thanks for your kind words tho. Carol

I'll try not to hold it against you. I can't speak for the others though. Seriously, I wouldn't worry about it too much. As long as you've got an interest in lighthouses, I think you'll be alright.

I wouldn't worry about collecting there are many here with other interests in lighthouses. If you collect photos then you need to meet Gary Martin in the photo forum. He doesn't collect Harbour Lights either but shares a common passion for them. We also have the preservation/fund raising forum, aw shucks I could go on and on and on about all the stuff that is here for the non-collector's. Having fun is the main requirement for this forum! ------------------ bigdragon

Carol,
Even though it says Collectors forum we don't have any requirement that you collect.
Just an interest in lighthouses and that's it. Stick around long enough and you may start- maybe with some Little Light Of Mine.
Also, you can edit your posts. Go back to the post you want to edit and click on the icon at the top with the pencil. the only thing you can't do is totally remove the post. You can edit anything else you desire.
People change their posts all the time- usually because like me they can't spell very well. sometimes because they decided they did not like what they had written.
This is a great bunch of lighthouse lovers. Just steer clear of the hot and heavy discussions that specifically pertain to collecting and you'll be allright.
Ask any questions you want - someone in this group will have an answer. It might even be correct.LOL!

Welcome Carol! This is the place for lighthouse lovers and/or collectors! Some people here collect them all and some only collect the ones they have been to and a few don't collect at all it looks like! It really doesn't matter as long as you have an interest in the "Lights." There is alot to learn here from the lighthouse links and all the knowledge of the people in here!

As you can see, Carol, this is a friendly place where we love to talk about Lighthouses and Harbour Lights -- as well as a few other things.
We're looking forward to reading your contributions and answering your questions. Please join us some time for a chat as well.
Just be careful when you visit collectible stores. Bill Younger has told us that they have a magic powder they sprinkly on Harbour Lights -- once you touch one, you get the itch to collect them!

Welcome Carol!
We all are happy to add one more Lighthouse Lover to the Forum. Sharing our love of lighthouses and taking trips to see lights or to be with other folks who love lights is really what we are all about. The "Forumites" here are full of info, have diverse opinions, have favorite lights, but are never boring. So, we look forward to having you as one of us.
Become a part of the International Lighthouse game and you will see many, many lights. We would love to have you.
Derith

Welcome to the Forums. I started with one lighthouse almost eight years ago and now I'm afraid to count them all. That magic "Younger Dust" really works.

Hi Carol,
Great to see you on here! Just wanted to let everyone know that the "lighthouse group" Carol joined is the Eastern Great Lakes Harbour Lights Collectors Club. So see, we don't discriminate either. We all love lighthouses and that's the most important thing!
Hope to see you soon!

Hi Carol and welcome to the forums. As John said, there isn't any requirement that you collect lighthouses. Chuck mentioned that I don't collect them... well, not with the same rabid fervor that he seems to anyway, although I do have about 15 or so. As Chuck also mentioned, I moderate the lighthouse photography forum and when it comes to photographing lighthouses and photography in general, I'm way beyond obsessive/compulsive! At any rate, welcome to the forums and dive right on it. There are a great bunch of folks on here and I'm sure you'll feel welcome!
