Welcome to the Forums. Let me be one of many to say hello to you, and being a retired CWO3(ELC) USCG, it is always nice to have another Coastie aboard. Please post and tell us about your interests in lighthouses and also include a little bit about yourself. It is great to have another member of Lighthouse Digest joining our Forums.

While you are looking over the Forums and becoming familiar with our different topics, I want to tell you about our HL Collector Forums Exclusive that was made for our members by Harbour Lights. It is a replica of the Erie Land Light and is available now. The cost is $50.00 and a member may buy as many of these exclusives as they want. The lighthouse is a limited edition of only 500 pieces. If you are interested, go to the top of the Forums under LIGHTHOUSEKEEPERS where the Exclusive is listed or click on http://www.lighthouse-events.com/forums/ .

Well, thank you all for the kind welcome. As you can tell I am an active duty Coast Guardsman, currently stationed in Hatteras, NC. I am the Executive Petty Officer of Motor Lifeboat Station Hatteras Inlet. I am one of only three Surfmen assigned to the unit. Just like the days of old, we still head out in gale and storms, but with the use of a lifeboat (with engines). I am very proud of my heritage and am completely amazed by the Surfmen of old. This past year I teamed up with Chicamacomico Historical Association and brought back the live Beach Apparatus Drill. This drill is one of only two in the nation, and the only one by active duty coast guard members. It is an incredible feeling to fir the lyle gun and send the shot over the wreck pole. nyway, another time and place for that story. I have always been interested in lighthouses, and especially the US Life Saving Service. I am proud to follow in the footsteps of those brave men who came before me.

Did you by any chance participate at Chicamacomico on "Americn Heroes Day" back in September? If you did, we possibly met. Here's my photo journal from the event...

A big welcome to you! smile

Hey Judy. I did participate in the American Hero's Day. The photos you have are from the "other" team from Station Oregon Inlet. I am the Keeper of the Hatteras Inlet Team. The two teams alternated throughout the summer, performing the drill at the traditional time of 1400 hours every Thursday. I am sure I met you (and a lot of others that day). I appreciate you coming to that event, I know the Chico volunteers worked very hard putting everything together. Please pass the word - The Chicamacomico Historical Association will be doing the event next year on the 7th of September (the closest Saturday to Sept 11th).

I did meet you then. Thank you and the rest of the guys! That day was my first opportunity to see the drill performed. I may have been working the water concession when your group was "up"...I'm a member at Chicamacomico, so I needed to contribute a little work, anyway.

Glad you have joined us here.

Judy
