I'm in CA and wanted to know if any of you collectors have used some sort of museum wax, Quakegel or other product to secure your HL. Also, does anyone have a good quake-resistant curio (plexiglas doors, no glass shelves, etc.) As my collection grows, I worry about losing them in a quake. Any suggestions from others in the Land-O-Quakes? I know it sounds crazy, but lots of people lost alot of stuff in Loma Prieta '89. Every time the ground moves, I worry about the HL!

Hi Dove,

I'm in Eureka and bought my 158th HL today. I've got curios all over my living and dining room.

1. Wire strap from top to a wall stud.
2. Wedges under front to help hold against the wall.
3. Be careful where you stick your non-slip wax or whatever you use to keep them from sliding. They tore the bottom labels off of eleven of my HL's when I tried to move them. HL was great about sending me replacement labels. Now I take my chances on them sliding.
4. Sometimes the quake wins. Insure them at "replacement" value in case the roof falls in (heaven forbid). Update the policy each year as replacement value changes.
5. Enjoy your lights and hope for the best.

Good Luck

Rich

In addition to insuring, I also replaced all plastic shelf brackets with metal ones, and all glass shelves with wood...ever since I saw my Oregon lights (on the top shef) sagging under the weight of my newly acquired Coquille River....
