I find it interesting that lighthouses are popular for use as logos. As I was reading
Factoid#4,I remembered an observation I made this week while checking our local weather forecast on The Weather Channel. They're using North Head in their introduction "trailer" upon returning from commercials. Cool! Using lighthouses, as you can see, got my attention.Anyone else seen any more?

Several Cities incorporate local lighthouses into their official 'seals'. These include Fernandina Beach FL (Amelia Island) and Mukilteo Washington. You can see these logos on the "lighthouse oddities" page: http://www.lighthousekeepers.com/lh_odd.htm

Many companies are also including lighthouses in advertising: Canon color copiers, and others.

- great topic Deb!

The icon for Netscape Communicator is a lighthouse and the same lighthouse logo that Mark notes is also on the Communicator splash screen as the program loads.

Here's a few more I found by rooting around on the web...

E.W. Scripps of Scripps-Howard newpaper publishing fame has used a lighthouse as their logo since the 1920's
cf. http://www.scripps.com/logo.html

Unum Mutual life insurance uses Portland Head as its logo

Rockport Shoes has a logo with a lighthouse

Racine Web Services - an Internet publishing company in the hometown of Windpoint has a cool animated lighthouse logo http://www.racineweb.com/

On Point Security who sells Pepper Mace to just about every police dept. in the world has a lighthouse logo

The web site of the New York Islander hockey team is called 'the Lighthouse'

the Ventura County Star newspaper has a lighthouse as its logo

The company that created a web site on lighthouses of Australia uses a lighthouse as their logo. Btw - be sure to check out this tres kewl site on Aussie lighthouses...

I only spent about 10 minutes searching - there are lots more out there.

Thanks to everyone for the responses.
I have visited some of the sights you recommended. They're great! The animated
Logo is especially interesting.
I noticed while checking these out the details are pretty authentic on many of them!
Impressive!!! Bill Y would be proud!! :-)
