When being displayed, is there a particular direction that a HL is supposed to face?
Flag Facing you, or Flag away, or is there no scheme?
For example, If the Hillsboro flag faces you then the piece is oriented the same way as in real life. But on La Jument, if the Flag faces you, you see nothing. No waves, no windows, nothing.
How do you Pro's do it?

I face mine the way that they look best to me at the moment. Generally I start with the flag away from the viewer, but not always. Some "backs" are as good as or better than the "fronts", imo. Arrange them the way that they please *you* the most. Rotate them periodically for a fresh perspective. This will also help equalize the fading that will inevitably occur. Egads! Fading? Yes, it's true. But you *can* help slow down the process: http://216.46.163.97/forums/Forum3/HTML/000045.html ------------------ -Art

Rotating the position of each HL has revealed new details to me all the time! I was recently upgraded my opinion of Old Field when I turned the lighthouse 180 degrees. It went from a neat LH(local prejudice) to a WOW!

Thanks, By the way, I just got Old Field Point Yesterday. I just love it. Upon seeing it, several people at work (non collectors) asked me where they could get one. Which way did you have it facing before and how does it face now?? Maybe I can enjoy mine some more ------------------ JB

It depends on which side of "The Cabinet" you are on, as to whether the flag is facing towards you or away. SaintWackoPaul 'Keep the FlameTo change the image this post has been... [This message has been edited by engbrady (edited 01-10-2000).]

Jul, guess the way they look best to you is a great answer! Art has a valid point however about them fading. A quarter turn every so often would probably be a good idea.

It depends on which side of "The Cabinet" you are on, as to whether the flag is facing towards you or away. Double WOW!!!!! Some day I hope I have a magnificent cabinet like that. ... I think I saw other photo's of it on another thread. Unfortunately I only get one directional view unless the piece is on one of the ends . Again, what a magnificent cabinet. It has glass on all 4 sides doesn't it? ------------------ JB[This message has been edited by JUL (edited 01-07-2000).]

I rotate my displays every month or so. This includes putting current HLs in a different location in the curios or putting some of them back in the box and putting others in their place on the display. I usually try to balance the display somewhat by placing the towers facing outbound from center. No matter what your preferences, as long as they look good to you....that's all that matters. Bob

Paul, That's one gorgeous cabinet display you have. Someday I'll own enough HLs to warrant a cabinet. I think they look beautiful from every angle. ~Dale

I set mine the way they strike me that moment. Then usually, the next time I walk past the cabinet, I stop and rotate a few, knowing that they will stay that way. (yea, right!) Then the next time I walk past, some get rotated again. I guess all this means that there is no right way, just enjoy!

I usually like to keep mine facing the same way all of the time (flag to the back)- that way I know if the kids have been looking at them! Fortunately, the kids are 10 and 12, and know how to handle them carefully, but I still like to know if they have been looking at them!

Not always, Bob! This is the way I display both the Special Event Sapelo and Special Event Tybee labels off! SaintWackoPaul 'Keep the Flame

Paul,
That's an interesting way to display your HL's. However, as I look at the picture, I'm afraid that Sapelo Island is going to roll off the shelf. How do you secure it in place, and aren't you afraid of some kind of stress damage from being upended?

This grouping I shot for the HL website, but I do have them displayed much like this in my cabinets. They are very secure and no more stress, than what I go through working in a newsroom every day.
