WOW! Thanks for the warm welcome! Yes, It's been a while since I've been here. Right after I joined, my computer crashed and I lost all my bookmarks. Today, I was digging though my saved E-mails at my yahoo mailbox and found my joining info for this board, so I'm back!

I was introduced to lighthouses as a young lad when my family moved to Duluth, MN in 1965. The firt lighthouses I saw were the pier lights at the Aerial Bridge in Duluth. Then one weekend, we visited Split Rock and I was hooked.

We moved away from Duluth in 1968. And after a few more stops, I ended up in Colorado. As the years past, and I grew up, other interests, (girls, cars etc.), and the fact that I live in a land-locked state, took me away from lighthouses.

In 1984 my folks moved back to the Midwest and when I would come to visit, we would go up to northern Minnesota to see the Duluth pier lights, Split Rock, and Two Harbors. So this, once again, sparked my interest in lighthouses.

When my folks moved to Wisconsin in 1996, that's when the spark turned into a roaring fire. We went to the U.P. of Michigan and visited several lighthouses. Since then, most of my vacations have been to visit lighthouses. I have always been a history buff, and lighthouses ooze history. One of my lighthouse interests is Fresnel lenses. They are a mixture if ingenuity, science, and beauty. There is nothing better than a lighthouse that still has its "jeweled eye" still in place.

I have now visited over 50 lighthouses from the Jersey shore to the California coast. However, Split Rock is still my favorite.

WELCOME AGAIN !!

Welcome to the Forums. Let me be one of many to say hello to you. Please post and tell us about your interests in lighthouses and also include a little bit about yourself.

While you are looking over the Forums and becoming familiar with our different topics, I want to tell you about our HL Collector Forums Exclusive that was made for our members by Harbour Lights. It is a replica of the Erie Land Light and is available now. The cost is $50.00 and a member may buy as many of these exclusives as they want. The lighthouse is a limited edition of only 500 pieces. If you are interested, go to the top of the Forums under LIGHTHOUSEKEEPERS where the Exclusive is listed or click on http://www.lighthouse-events.com/forums/ .

Welcome back, Brindfan! You would have loved our trip to the Tidewater area this weekend. The NATON exhibit of Fresnel lenses (and other navigational aids) is absolutely outstanding. As landlocked as you are, you would really enjoy some of the HL and Wacko trips, so stay tuned for those.

And if anyone is curious about my handle "Brindfan", this should clear things up:

Welcome Brindfan,

Did you know we have an active lighthouse club in Colorado? Let me know if you would like some info on it. We are always looking for more members to join in the fun.

No, I didn't know there was an active lighthouse club. However, I don't know if I would have the time to be involved because I travel a lot in my job.

Same here. Every now and again they offer the boat trip with landing at Chamber Island, but for the last few years they do the "drive" by. Great photo op but I would rather get up close also. laugh

They need to put a lens room back on Chambers. I HATE the fact that they have torn several lens rooms off of lighthouses! mad

And how many posts do I need to get rid of my "Newbie" status?
