Our current plans are like most private lighthouse groups--raise money, raise awareness which are often the same thing. We hope to get grants written to raise the funds to complete the inside of the lighthouse, costs estimates are $500,000. What we first need to do is create a safe and retractable landing area at the lighthouse which is in quite treacherous waters. Then we can go ahead with re doing the inside if we get the money. We'd also like to creat a Weatherbug weather station and webcam at the light, but this comes with its own set of technical problems--no electricity, no cabling, so it has to be solar and wi-fi. But it would be such a great thing for the lighthouse to get almost nighthy publicity from the number one news station in Providence. Cost estimate is about $20,000. So in the meantime, as we wait to begin writing grants, we raise a little bit of money selling stuff on our website and having informational booths at boat shows and the Wickford art festival.
