HI! Wanted to introduce myself to everyone. I am originally from Hampton VA, lived 15 minutes from Old Pt Comfort I didn't appreciate the beauty of Lighthouses until I moved to Colorado (1982) and just a year ago I was in a Hallmark store when I saw a "Little Light" Cape Hatteras which made me home sick for the smell and sound of the ocean. I bought that little light! It just so happened that there was a display announcing a signing event with Bill, I decided I would have to come back and see what the event was all about, listened to the wonderful stories Bill told... I joined the Collector's Society that day and I've been hooked ever since. That was May 2001, that summer my daughter and I went back to VA to visit my family, and we did a couple of day trips and visited Assateague, Cape Hatteras, Bodie Lighthouse, and of course we had to go by Old Pt Comfort.
I just attended a signing event with Nancy, and what a LADY she is. Talking to all the other people who were there was great. Everyone is so friendly and willing to share their Lighthouse adventures. Many THANKS to Randy for providing information about this part of the Harbour Lights website!

I look forward to more years of collecting, and meeting more great people! I hope one day to be able to attend a reunion.

Mel

Welcome Mel! Glad you've had a chance to meet Bill & Nancy. These two wonderful people make all of us feel like part of their extended family.

I'm sure many of us collect because of all that these two do for collectors and lighthouses.

Again, welcome - we're looking forward to your participation in these forums and at store and regional events.

Welcome, it is good to have another late nighter. It must be cool to have lived so close to Old Pt. Comfort. This forum is a really good support group to help feed your addiction. There are a lot of Saints that can provide you with a steady course through your HL addiction maze. Just ask and they will answer. I also had my first event and it was with Nancy and she is great. You hit it right on the head, she is a LADY.

Chuck

Hi Mel-
sometimes it is so hard to live in an area that has no LH! I suppose that is why HL were invented- to keep us all close to the lights that we love so much!
Welcome to the forums- you'll find lots of friends here- I have.

Welcome Mel!

Glad to have another new member on the forums, but more important is that you are a member of the Harbour Lights group. Greatest bunch of people anywhere.

I found it amazing that you lived so close to Old Pt. COmfort, but didn't get to appreciate it till you moved away.

I love the mountains of New Hampshire a four hour drive for me. I have a brother-in-law who has a panoramic view of the mountains from his living room and deck and he could care less.

Thanks for coming on line, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Welcome Mel

I have found the people here to be a great group of lighthouse fans.

As you can see from the number of topics here in the Forums, if you have a question someone probably can give you an answer.

I have enjoyed several events with Bill and Nancy and I concur with you staements. I could sit and listen to Bill for Hours when he is talking about lighthouses.

Welcome Mel!

Old Point Comfort is one of my favorites! My wife and I had the pleasure of seeing this light while on a Williamsburg vacation in 1992. Lots of history in that part of the country. I hope to get back there in the future! Now that you took the first step, keep in touch and don't be a stranger! Lots to learn here and lots of friendly people!

Thanks for all the warm welcomes and so many so soon!

I do have a question, what do all the different titles mean, WACKO, SAINT, CRUISE DIRECTOR? I think I get NEWBIE! How does one become a Wacko, Saint, etc?

Welcome, Mel. Many, many moons ago my father turned down orders to Fort Monroe (he also turned down orders to the Presidio of San Francisco that go round, but that is a whole nother story!)

I know that you will enjoy your time here in the Forums and at HarbourLights.com. As has been mentioned, you won't find a finer group of people, ones who will become your extended lighthousing family.

All you other Newbies and Wackos alike need to follow the outstanding example set by Mel and get your Official Wacko Name Badge ordered!

Welcome Mel!

I just met Nancy at Fish & Ships in Stillwater in April. I agree with your comments about her. She was very nice!! The store is great. However, because it was crowded and I arrived at the end when people were eager for the drawings, it wasn't really condusive to socializing with others. I looked around the room and wondered if anyone there was an HL forum member.

Anyway, hope to hear more from you soon.

Tammy

Tammy,

I sent you a longer reply directly, but also wanted to post a public reply. Thanks for the Welcome!

Get to the next event early, then you will have an opportunity to meet folks. Plus you have more time to listen to Bill and Nancy, they have just wonderful stories to tell about the lighthouses!
