Welcome to the Forums. Let me be one of many to say hello to you. Please post and tell us about your interests in lighthouses and also include a little bit about yourself. While you are looking over the Forums and becoming familiar with our different topics, I want to tell you about our HL Collector Forums Exclusive that is being made for our members. It is a replica of the Erie Land Light and will be available around April of 2006. The cost is $50.00 and a member may buy up to 2 of these exclusives. You can pay 50% down on each piece or you may pay the entire amount up front. If you pay the entire amount at one time you will also receive a "free" pin of the Erie Land Light. You can also choose to buy this pin if you pay the 50% down. The lighthouse will be a limited edition of only 500 pieces. If you are interested, go to the top of the Forums under LIGHTHOUSEKEEPERS where the Exclusive is listed or click on http://www.lighthouse-events.com/forums/ .

Thank you everyone for the friendly welcome! This really is a friendly place! I never joined a forum before this and feel a bit intimidated. I hope I don't step on any toes! I thought this might be the place to get answers to my lighthouse collectibles question.
I am not a collector at this point, but I have loved lighthouses since I can remember. My husband and I enjoyed several trips to New England in recent summers, eating lobster on the beach by a different lighthouse each evening!
Our son is getting married in St. Michael's, MD this summer. In my brainstorming, I came up with the idea of using a model or figurine of the Hooper Strait lighthouse (which stands in St. Michael's) as the topper for the wedding cake. The bride and groom love the idea! We live in another state, so I'm researching this long distance, mostly online. I discovered Harbour Lights collectibles, but I'm really confused by all the different versions of this light. It's especially difficult to determine the dimensions.
The model/figurine can be no larger than 8" at it's widest point, preferably a bit smaller. I wouldn't want it to be too small or it would lose visual impact.
Does anyone know which Harbor Lights edition of this light would be the best size? Is there any other company's figurines I should consider?
I sure hope I'm asking this question in the right place! Thanks again, everyone!

You basically have 3 choices for Hooper Strait. The limited edition Society Exclusive is HL642, 6" high and a base size of approximatly 6". It sells for $80.00 retail but the problem is finding a piece at retail because it is retired. The next size down is the open edition selling for $75.00. It is just a little bit smaller(don't know exact size but you can call Harbour Lights at 1-800-365-1219 to find out), is part number HL461 and because it is an open edition any dealer can order it for you. The smallest available size is the LLOM(Little Light of Mine) series. The part number is LL267 and retails for $21.95. It's base is approx. 2-3" and the height is about 2 1/2". Again, any dealer can order it for you. You can also call 1-800-758-1444 and order these 2 pieces direct from Lighthouse Depot in Wells, Maine.

Thank you, Rich (flacoastie)! This is exactly the information I need. You confirmed what I suspected, that the limited edition Society exclusive is the right size. I have located a retailer with one available for purchase at $80. My only concern is the weight, which I understand to be about 3 lbs. I think it might work. I'd sure like to buy Harbour Lights as I think they are beautifully done. But as an alternative, do you know of any other figurines/models that are lighter in weight? Thanks again for your help. Lynn

I don't know of any others that have produced Hooper Strait. There may be others but since I only collect Harbour Lights I don't check the others out.

Scassis did a couple sizes of Hooper Strait. I haven't seen them in a long time so I don't have any other info on them. I actually saw them in the museum store at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum at St. Michaels. Here's the museum info CBMM Welcome lynnyg! Your children have chosen a beautiful location for a wedding. Judy

Hi, Judy (lighthouser), I saw one by Scassis on ebay but the base is too big. Thank you for the CBMM suggestion and link. I emailed the museum store manager last week asking for guidance, but I haven't heard back yet. I figured they'd be my best bet for selection. I may just have to make the long drive to St. Michael's again soon. What a fun quest this is! Thanks for your help! Lynn
