I'm looking at getting tickets to fly into NY for the LI regional event. My question: is it any better to fly into to Islip than JFK? The cost is higher for Islip but I'll probably use frequent flyer miles so it won't matter on which location I use.
Thanks for any help.

Check out Southwest Airlines, Lorie. They fly into LongIsland/Islip. Not the $99 each way, but $149 is available from www.southwest.com PHX-ISLIP-PHX Checking SLC-ISLIP-SLC there are $99 each way fares available if you don't mind a couple of stops and/or a change of planes at Midway. Another possibility might be Providence RI - you could then take the ferry from Point Judith and do some touring either before or after.

I'd use Islip if possible. Less driving and closer to the event. Plus Islip is so much easier to get in and out of. The lesser hassle in my opinion is worth the extra cost.

I gotta agree with Shirin. Islip is a smaller airport, but there MUCH LESS hassle getting in and out. Plus, you won't have to deal with as much traffic either.

I'd even pick the Westchester County airport in White Plains over any of the big ones in the area. I try to avoid JFK, LaGuardia and Newark if I can.

Thanks for all helpful suggestions. Initially, I figured I would use my Delta frequent flyer miles and fly into Islip and the cost of the ticket wouldn't matter. However, today I noticed a very good "web only" fare on Delta for SLC-JFK. Cost to fly Delta SLC-Islip---$408.50 RT Cost to fly Delta SLC-JFK---$211.50 RT Cost to fly Southwest SLC-Islip---$334.00 RT I decided to just buy tickets for John and I on the Delta SLC-JFK flight and save my frequent flyer miles. I guess the drive won't be much worse than when we flew into O'Hare for the Grand Rapids event.

I'm planning on flying into Hartford, CT and taking the ferry across. More chances to see lighthouses that way. Does anyone know if the ferry will be running to Block Island at that time of the year? I'm taking a couple of extra days for the trip. Judy
