Is anyone planning on going out to Pottawatomie on Friday, before the dedication ceremony Saturday? I need to shoot this light but really want to work around the dedication ceremony so that minimal people will be in the photo. I would love to have a hiking buddy! My husband and two year old are coming with me so this is something I need to do without them. There is no way my munchkin can make that trek out there and I'm not carrying my 25 pound backpack and my 30 pound daughter...! laugh

Also, is anyone doing the Fireboat cruise? If so, what day and time? This will be the only boat cruise I am doing. I desparately wanted to do the Island Clipper with all of you guys but my other half said no to the six hour boat cruise... frown

Gee, Jen, I would think the two would help to balance out things.

We did the fireboat cruise as a group two years ago. Enjoyed the cruise, but the only light you get decent pics of is the Ship Canal light. The cruise we were on didn't go out far enough to shoot the pier light without the pier and cat walk between you and the light. And, while they say you see Sherwood, it is no more than a speck on the horizon.

Well Jen,

It appears that you didn't exactly fill the stadium with volunteers to hike with you on Friday. If you wish, I'd be happy to accompany you on your adventure. It should be fun. I'll be staying at the Birchwood.

I'd better warn you, however, that I've been sick for awhile. I should be OK by mid-May. If worst comes to worse, you might have to carry me back. JUST KIDDING!

Jen - Several people will be doing the Bailey Harbor boat trip at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Then we will be going to Keeper's Kin at the museum. If we have enough time, we will go to the town park first for photos of the Canal Station and pierhead lights.

I believe I have posted this before - the Fireboat cruise is fun, but it does not get close to Sherwood Point lighthouse at all. Sherwood Point looked very distant even with my 200 zoom. At the ship canal side, the boat turns around before reaching the pierhead light. This means that you cannot get a shot from the water with both the pierhead and the canal station light in it. One can get just as good shots from the town park across the canal.

There will be people at Pottawatomie all weekend including Friday. Jim Johnston from our club will be there, he is camping on Rock Island.

Sturgeon Bay Canal Station and Sherwood Point will not be open on Friday. You might be allowed to walk out on the Canal Station pier on Friday.

One can get nice photos of the Canal Station and pierhead from the town park across the canal.

Hi!
If you are familiar with the area, we live five blocks from the Lac La Belle music dome on Chaffee Road in the River Park Apartment complex.

I would like to add that Sherwood Point grounds are usually off-limits to civilians, but they will have the Keepers house open for the lighthouse walk on Sat., and Sun.

Something new for this year!

Jessie - I can send you a map showing how to get there.

I am originally from West Bend, not too far from Oconomowoc.

Suzanne,
That would be great! I am pretty familiar with the Door County area, my husband and I go several times a year. It always seems we stumble across somthing new each time.

Thanks!
