My day started early rising at 7am for an 9:30 semifinal best of three baseball game. We won 11-3 but the game ended at 12;30 pm and I was challlenged to get to the Bill signing by 1pm. Pedal to the metal I arrived at 12;57 JUST as Bill was mixing up the entries. I just got my two in - in-time as Bill started the drawing. He distributed the raffles to the prizes and I won a t-shirt. One guy present won 5 prizes in a row. Now the GOLD. First person was not there. confused 2nd person was not there. eek I picked up the piece to examine it, just as the rep pulled my name out as winner!
WaHOOOOOOOOO! laugh

Now off to a Wedding a 2:30pm while Bill headed for another signing in Northport.

Bob,

I guess unlike the other two you were in the right place at the right time.

You must ahve been right around the corner from Bill of been extremely lucky to get there in time on LI.

Hope you had a triple header and had a good time at the wedding.

Dennis

Congratulations, Bob! Sometimes, there's a reason for things going the way they do, we just don't realise them at first.

How about a photo? smile

Thanks everyone!
Now that I'm in the club, can anyone give me some details on what I've won?
Number, what it's really made of, etc?

(Announcer Voice) CONGRATULATIONS!

You've just won a gold-plated pewter casting of of the Little Light size of 14 Foot Bank lighthouse in Delaware.

One each of these VERY SPECIAL Harbour Lights pieces is being given away at each in-store event attended by Bill Younger in 2005 (and a few attended by Nancy Younger and/or Kim Andrews.)

You can get an approximate count of the number of pieces in total by visiting this page and counting the number of events:

Now Daniel will drop in here and tell you his estimate of the worth of this VERY UNIQUE piece on the secondary market!

(Fast-talking Legal Disclaimer Voice) Neither Harbour Lights nor Younger & Associates has reviewed this annoucement nor the suggested value of the item you've just won. As far as these companies are concerned, it's a piece of pewter with a micron or two thick layer of gold plating. Beauty (and value) are in the eye of the beholder. Your mileage will vary.

Very good John! Have you ever thought of doing TV voiceovers? I kind of thought that might be the start on the number (signing) but didn't know if others were give out a the Regional or will be at the Reunion. I still am a little amazed that I won. I've never been very lucky. But that's been changing recently.
I didn't have my camera at the event but the Sales Rep had a throw-away, so I'll try to get a copy through the Store Owner.

Good, John! You forgot the part about the side effects that are worse than the reason you're taking it. laugh

Bob - I think another one was given away at the Door County Collector Dinner by Kim. There may be a few extras like that beyond the count of store events.

You mean May cause stomach upset and cold sweats? I'd take those symptoms anytime in exchange for the GOLD.

I got a confirmation that my guesstimate of 50 gold 2005s "14 Foot Bank lighthouse in Delaware" is in the ballpark. And it's made of what called 'gold plated pewter'. Even says that on the sticker. laugh Still smilin' laugh

ps Here's an update!
Great Wedding!
We won our second game Sunday and are in the FINALS after sweeping the first two, 2 of 3 series(4 wins).
Didn't win Saturday's LOTTO. Not even 1 number

This shocks me. It seems from this forum that there are tons of HL collectors in Utah or nearby areas. Maybe we should have a "petition" of sorts for one next year.

Congrats on winning the GOLD, Bob! Such a fortunate win adds to the excitement of HL collecting! It's always great to see a fellow CF member join the "circle of gold" section of the Harbour Lights Family of Friends.

Congratulations Bob

The dealer that I go to for the store events is Edgewater in Jacksonville FL.
The problem that Edgewater has that they are never on the boat for the store events until toward the end of the summer. According to the owner, Edgewater will have a event piece even though they are not on the list. They will not have the Gold store event but a chance for the St Augustine renovation event. With this in mind it looks like that HL didn’t make any extra store event pieces for any stores that got on the list at the last moment.

So allowing for a few extras let say around 40 was made. That is only 5 more than the St George Regional Gold event. The St George regional went for $5000 at the last reunion, but at the last ebay auction it only climbed to $900. Like I have been saying before, the gold event pieces are extremely rare and I would have them insured according to my post a few months ago. But the collectors that are willing to pay that kind of money for them are also rare. Because of the few collectors that are trying to have a complete set of the gold plated event pieces I would say that any event piece that was first on the market will go for a better price than one that is for sale two or three years later. The Gold 14 Foot Bank has not been on the market yet and may demand a price as high as $2000. I think once the smoke clears it will go for $1200 to $1500. I would have it insured for $4000 to $5000. Even if 50 of these was made I don’t think it would make much difference on the value.

The good news is that I feel eventually more collectors are going to want a complete or near complete set of the Gold Event pieces and be willing to pay for them. This will eventually bring the price back up. That is why in my opinion the gold event pieces are worth more than what you could sell them for. Selling a gold event piece now is like selling a US savings bond right after you received it.

I tend to agree with you on those points, Dan.

Purchasing a rare piece, be it regular or gold, during a charity auction tends to inflate the price. Usually the deep-pockets people step up to the plate and write it off as a charitable donation. God bless them for that.

Is it speculation? Is it just satisfying the addictive habit of collecting HL's? Who knows...

Just found this while searching for something else.
I was surprised rereading this about the speculation about selling MY GOLD.

FYI I still have it, and feel privledged to have won. Really never thought I'd have an opportunity to get one.

I actually got another from Harbour Lights for the LI Challenge that I auctioned off for the Cedar Island LH.

I have but one gold piece, Cape St George! Lorna and I won it at the Regional in Long Island after the Reunion in Baltimore. Once we had it signed, I would not let it out of my sight. When we stopped at a restaurant, with a couple of couples on the way home, I brought the gold piece in with me. There was no way I was taking a chance of having it stolen. Take my car but not my gold HL!

smile Bob
