We visited Montauk on the Sunday after the regional; I haven't had a chance to post till now.

The lighthouse and its setting are spectacular, but the museum in the keeper's house was the highlight of the visit. There are some outstanding interpretive exhibits, including a lighted, animated map of all Long Island lights, and four scale models of Montauk light at various times over the years. Here's just one:

Plus some magnificent Fresnel lenses:

I gained a greater appreciation of my HL Clamshell lens after seeing this one:

We took our time and explored the Hamptons a bit, so we didn't get to any other lights. But this first visit to Long Island gave us a good orientation and lots of ideas for future itineraries.

Nice pictures, Bruce. If you could only visit one light (in addition to Fire Island, of course)Montauk is a beauty. And, you had a very pretty day to visit. When you buy that property in the Hamptons you will be able to visit on a regular basis!
