Here is the event all of you northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin collectors have been waiting for.

Sunday, November 12th, 1 to 3 PM
European Imports & Gifts
7900 N Milwaukee Avenue
Niles IL 60714
847-967-5253
800-227-8670
http://www.europeanimports.com/

Niles is northwest of Chicago, next to O'Hare. Should be a great location for many collectors to get to. This will be the last chance for Midwesterners to get the 2000 event piece, Cape Hatteras on the Move.

Who's going?

Dave

Dave, I will try to get there. It's still up in the air if I go up to Whitefish Point for the Edmund Fitzgerald 25th anniversary ceremonies. Plans change quickly around here.

We got there early to see Bill, at about 12:45. He was already signing so we got our pieces to him with no wait. Wish we had brought more. Even tried to get him to spill some "inside info" about what Great Lakes lights are on the drawing board for next year (besides St. Helena) but he would'nt budge.

Repeat after me...POTTAWATOMIE, POTTAWATOMIE, POTTAWATOMIE

Someday the "Restoration Series" might include The Pottawatomie Light on Rock Island, WI

We will work on the interior and start on the oil house & privy. Composting toilets are planned on site along with a white picket fence that stood in 1882. The galvanized pipe railing will be dismantled and a wood railing on the lantern deck hopefully will be attached by summer 2001

POTTAWATOMIE

JJ, does that translate to composting toilet?

I'm with you Jim. I'd love to see another Door County light, and Pottawatomie Light would be a great choice. We went up there this summer, shortly after the plastering job. Things are really shaping up there. I'd love to see a lens back in the tower, although it is nice to be able to go in the tower to look out. But certainly get rid of that hidous skeleton tower!

You can see in the background the steel tower Cana Fan is refering to. If by for some chance I cannot convince Harbour Lights to add our clubs adopted lighthouse to the restoration series, maybe I'll have a chance at the "Then & Now" series. How about a piece like this tower? Bill H. will surely give it a WOW-how ugly!

What you don't see on the bottom of the tower is barbed wire. That didn't stop me though. I'll post them when I scan them in after work tonight.

It was good to read in the new Legacy that Pottawatomie got a $200,000.00 grant. That should go a long way for a well deserving lighthouse and restoration group. Now, if they could just find a way to make it easier to get to the lighthouse....
