We are getting down to the last 2 weekends of signing events for the year and the signing at Bayside Treasures may well be the Wacko Signing Event of the year! At least 4 and possibly 5 Wacko's are planning to attend, as well as one very special Wacko!

Saturday, November 11 from 1 to 3 PM
Bayside Treasures
4852 N Summit St. Toledo, OH 43611
Phone 419-729-2097
Toll Free 888-567-9700
Fax 419-729-2069
http://www.baysidetreasures.com/

WackoPaul has promised this is a wonderful store to visit, and the owners are great folks. The website indicates a giveaway of one of the new Fresnel Lens, with each purchase earning an entry. What an extra incentive to be sure you get your Cape Hatteras on the Move event pieces. Be sure to call ahead to order one.

Perhaps Paul will post a map or a link to a map for us to find our way? Hope to see lots of you there!

Dave

I know that you all probably thought that special Wacko that Dave was referring to was me, but alas it is not.... It is however none other than Fred Kuhlman who just called me back and confirmed that he will indeed make it to the Wacko gathering at the Bill Event at Bayside Treasures on Saturday the 11th of November.

Diane and I will be there. We have been looking forward to this event since we saw it scheduled. Had a nice time last year and even won some prints in a drawing.

Look forward to seeing some fellow wackos there.

Becki and I will be there, looks like it will be a nice gathering.

OK, Todd S....get off work and travel down! You too, Mark, TimA, Digger, Kat, and Jake. It's not all that far away. Just visiting the Toledo Art Museum would make the trip worthwhile, let alone the migration of gathering Wackos.

We are looking toward going to this signing event as long as nothing goes wrong. We can mix it in with a visit to our son who is at MCO (Medical College of Ohio). Do you know if there are any restrictions on having Bill sign any pieces that we didn't buy from Bayside Treasures?

There is going to be a special gathering at 11:00AM on Saturday, before the signing at Bayside Treasures. If you can make it I need to hear from you for a head count (RSVP to WackoPaul@bvimpact.com) and (hint) bring your appetite (HL Picnic). I guarantee it will be SPECIAL! It just doesn't get any better than this!

2beacons: You can always call the dealer and ask what their policy is regarding the signing of these pieces.

John Wisnewski the owner of Bayside Treasures is very fair about you bringing some of your lighthouses from home with you. If you plan on bringing several with you, the most fair way is to take 2 to 4 through the line at a time and then take those back to your car and get 2 to 4 more and get back in line (at the end of course... no cutting) get those signed. This is most fair way for everyone to get there lights signed and a chance to talk to Bill.

Also if the line gets long to be fair you might not want to get back in line immediately but wait a little while so that again everyone has an equal chance at getting their lights signed.

For those who are attending, you may want to stop by and snap a quick photo of the Manhattan Front & Rear Range Lights. The skeletal towers from 1918 were built as replacements of the original 1895 lights. The Rear Range Light originally housed a 5th order Fresnel bullseye lens. They are not the prettiest looking towers, but what the hey.

Both towers have been moved inland to different locations. The Front Light is 2.7 miles south of John's store, on the same road, at 2824 Summit Street (Hansen Industries property). The Rear Light is an additional 5.9 miles south of the Front Light, at 2605 Broadway (Lighthouse Cafe). Summit Street turns into Broadway, so they are all on the same road.

When I was young I remember hearing the expression, "Holy Toledo!" This is a little off the subject here but does anyone know where that expression originated?

Bob, I found this explanation on the internet..
Quote:
The expletive, "Holy Toledo," refers to Toledo, Spain, which became an outstanding Christian cultural center in 1085.

I realize that you probably thought it referred to SaintWackoPaul's pilgrimages to Toledo several times a year!

We are going to leave for the event about 9:30 AM or so. We should be there in plenty of time unless the dredded orange barrels on Rt. 2 slow us down.

Look forward to seeing all of you there.

Great pics Paul! Thanks for sharing. It certainly sounds like you and the rest of the gang had a wonderful time. I understand there were a lot of big money lights floating around there.

We had a great event at Bayside Treasures! We arrived around 11:00, having stopped to see the range lights Rod mentioned. There were already several folks at the store visiting. After a little bit, the picnic began in the back of the store. A very special thanks to John for getting all the goodies for the picnic and to Bill for offering to host it. The food was great as was the company of all the connected collectors. We had a very nice turnout, as you can tell from the pictures. Bill also offered to start signing our pieces before the crowds arrived, so we began that.

There were crowds there pretty much the entire time, and many pieces were purchased at the event as well as brought from home. John was very generous in allowing collectors to bring in pieces to be signed, and everyone I saw did the "bring in a few at a time" routine to not take up all Bill's time.

Yes, Tim, there were a number of high dollar pieces brought in. At one point, there were 2 CH1, 2 Coquiles and a Split Rock Michigan on the table at the same time! That even impressed Bill. Paul has some pictures that I'm sure he will post. A little later a woman brought in another CH1. At that point I was seriously thinking of looking for a crowbar to take out to the parking lot to go shopping! (just kidding).

We had connected collectors from Ohio, Indiana, Michigan and our long distance winner, Fred Kuhlman from California! It was great seeing old friends and being able to meet others for the first time.

As Paul also mentioned above, after the event the Indiana crowd headed over to Marblehead to visit. (Jakers had to catch up with his dad, who had seen this light on several occassions). As we were nearing Marblehead Heather's question was "how come the sky is a pretty blue everywhere but where we are headed?" It had been an absolutely beautiful day so far, but the sky did get overcast just for us.

We finished off the evening with dinner at the Garden Restaurant in Port Clinton. Appropriate to theis day of Harbour Lighthousing and Lighthousing, this restaurant sits on the land where the original Port Clinton lighthouse was located.

To sum it all up, I think it would be appropriate to state that a fun time was had by all!

Dave

The Bayside Treasures was a wonderful signing event. We arrived early around 10:00a.m. and Bill was already hard at work signing preordered pieces. The picnic was a great deal of fun and it was nice to put faces with people who are out in the forum. The crowds kept coming with little let up. We still can't believe the old, old, old pieces that showed up to be signed. If this picnic is what it is like with other wackos next years reunion should be wonderful.

Just wanted to say that Becki and I had a wonderful time at the signing. It was nice to see Paul, Sue, and Fred once again, and especially nice to meet Jake, Jake's mom and dad, DaveH and family, 2beacons, and Tom & Diane Simpson, etc.

John was very gracious in allowing all the Wackos to blitzkrieg his store for the day. Bill was his wonderful jovial self, and many thanks to him for the wonderful feast he bestowed on the masses.

Paul snapped off lots of pictures, including surprise shots of everyone stuffing their faces. Let's hope those candid shots miraculously dissapear. LOL. Thanks everyone for a great time.

Diane and I would also like to say thanks to John and Bill for putting on this event. Not only was the food good but finally meeting some of the other connected collectors was nice.

Hopefully we can do it again next year.

More Picnic Pictures.....

Rosemont had the "Wall"... the "Picnic" had the "Tablecloth"... the black covering on the table is actually the paper that John Wisnewski uses to seal the backs of the pictures when he frames them (John is an excellent framer). Bill took the opportunity to write his interpretation on the holding of the "Picnic". Bill used the new Gold pen that he uses to sign the bases of the Fresnel lens. I will add a verbatim of what he wrote later tonight, since I am the now proud owner of the "Tablecloth". All of the collectors attending the Picnic signed the "Tablecloth".

Fred and Dave H. intensely reading what Bill wrote on the "Tablecloth", before they sign it.

Screen right is Rod Watson without him stuffing food in his mouth... It was tough but I found one, Rod.

Dave H(screen right) trying to hone in on a picture of Jaker's dad preparing his plate of food..

Front row from left to right…. Jaker, Jaker's Mom, Jaker's Dad and my wife Sue..
Back row… John Wisnewski our host for the day going behind Jaker's Mom in a blur… taking care of one of the thousand things he was busy with at the signing.

In the last photo above, Bill is wearing a tie with a handpainted image of Point Arena lighthouse.

This was presented to him by a group of the original (AOL Lighthouse Collectibles Board) 'Connected Collectors' at the 1997 Reunion.

I also mentioned to Bill about the tie. He wore the tie in Niles, IL. I said, "That the tie we gave you in San Diego at the dinner. He was surprized that I remembered. Bill also mentioned that there was a guy that brought two original Hatteras' and two Coquilles to the event. Someone said thats $15,000 worth of Harbour Lights just with those pieces. They were quite amazed.

At the time that there were the 2 CH1's and the 2 Coquilles sitting on the desk, Bill was signing an AP Mu(L)kilteo he was holding. The figure that I heard being thrown out was a total of around $20,000. What made it that high was probably that Rod Watson's Eldred Rock, AK lighthouse was also sitting on the desk.

Sorry Rod, Becki wasn't in the picture... no cloning, Mark!

....and I hope Paul's picture of Becki standing next to all of them turned out. Then I can tell everyone that they were all my pieces. LOL.

Don't forget that there was also a misspelled Split Rock, MI with the other 5 rarities too!

If not Rod let me know what you want in your "insurance photo" and I'll see if I can fix you up (we'll figure out the split of the insurance money later)
