Tonight Kim Andrews joined us on the chat to let us know some of what will happen this year with HL events. Lots of interesting news.

The Mark Twain Light will be used for Bill, Nancy and Rep events. However, at each Bill or Nancy event there will be a special gold plated version given away. Entries will be generated from purchases at the store event.

The regionals will also see gold again this year. Same as last year, 5 per regional. However, the gold will be the appropraite version of the Fort Tompkins piece (i.e., spring, summer, fall or winter.) Now talk about a limited edition!

Lots of gold in 2002. The special gold version of the Mark Twain Memorial Light is the tower standing alone and no buildings.

This should boost attendance at Bill or Nancy signings across the country. There will only be around 100-120 of the gold towers made. I don't know exactly how many gold Ft. Tompkins will be made but certainly a lot less than the number of gold towers.

2002 will be an interesting season for Harbour Lights. Hopefully, we'll have several connected collectors at each event to report back on what transpired, and hopefully, a few of the CF members will be the winners.

You'll need Adobe Acrobat reader to view the list of Harbour Lights events for 2002:

This is kinda on the subject - but not!

Strange but True!

I read the above post this afternoon, and as I was traveling south on I-75 about an hour later, just north of Cincinnati, a light blue van passed me on the highway with this license plate - DBL GOLD - I didn't see what state the plate was, nor the driver! WAS THAT YOU TIM!?!?!

I am having a problem with the file too Stephanie. I can get the first page printed but not the second one. My computer freezes everytime. And my computer at work just doesn't even seem to bother to get the file. Of course as I say this the file actually printed out. Only after getting an error from Adobe saying that the data was too complex. But give it another try and let your computer sit there for a few minutes before giving up.

I've had a number of reports on problems with the PDF file - I'll work on getting one that works right.

Ok I tryed again and again. Still nothing! Waited up to 20 mins still nothing.

Maybe someone would copy and send to me in an email? Please ! All I realy need is the store signings for the states of Alabama, Mississippi, Lousiana, Georga, and Florida. These are the ones that I would go to. Thanks to anyone who would do this for me.

There has been a change of rules for drawings for the Regional Event 'Gold' versions of Fort Tompkins. This was implemented to give collectors too far away to attend/thus have a chance to win. Up to 2 of the 5 gold given away at each regional can be won by someone not in attendance. Those collectors who cannot attend should mail their vouchers to HL office to arrive 10 days before the event and we will place those vouchers into the drawing so they too have a chance.

John, could you clarify something for me? I purchase one of each limited edition from Bayside Treasures (super dealer!) in Toledo Ohio. Can I mail in vouchers from my dealer for drawings outside his region? If not, will I have to buy a LE from a dealer within the region where the drawing is taking place?

Inquiring minds on the East Coast, where it is 38 degrees and raining with very little frost in the ground and no snow cover, would like to know!

Bob - you can buy the pieces from Bayside and enter them in any regional, not just the one Bayside is participating in.

...I'll verify this, but that's my reading of it, Bob.

I will wait with anticipation to see John's answer about participating without being there. I eagerly looked over the list when it arrived in the mail last week and to my surprise and dismay, nary a regional event or In-Store event anywhere in NC or SC. I thought I had it made since I am planning to attend the Chesapeake/OBLHS meeting in VA, but while Bill is speaking to us, Nancy is in Annapolis and Winchester with an in-store event, so I have nothing within a 5 or 6 hour drive from Charlotte.

Thanks.

Sanibel,

The list in the Legacy is a partial list. There will be events added to the list as they are confirmed. There are several events not yet shown on the list that tend to happen each year, so don't give up just yet. Stay tuned to this forum and we'll keep you updatted as soon as we learn anything new.

For Bob M - You are correct; you do NOT need to use the vouchers you receive from your dealer in that dealer's regional.

Buying all four Regional versions, you can, if you want, enter one voucher in EACH of the four regionals, if you choose.

HOWEVER, each voucher has the name of that Regional "Spring", "Summer", "Fall", "Winter". To enter vouchers in regionals you will not be attending you must cross out the name of the regional and write in the one you want to enter on each of the vouchers and mail these to Harbour Lights to arrive 2 weeks before the date of the regional you are entering. (If you don't write in the regional you want to enter, then HL will assume you want to enter the regional printed on the voucher.)

According to information sent to the dealers this week, they can give vouchers to customers who buy limited editions so long as that customer also buys at least one Fort Tompkins from them.

So, it would seem that to maximize the number of vouchers you receive, it would be best to purchase your Fort Tompkins from the dealer from which you buy your other limited editions.

Caveat Emptor: Only 2 of the 5 gold regional pieces to be given away at each of the 4 regionals can be won by someone not in attendance at that regional at the time of the drawing. You have the best chance to win by using your voucher(s) at the regional you will be attending.

Thanks JC for clarifying the drawing for the gold and the voucher system. I've decided to buy all four of the Fort Tompkins pieces. I wasn't going to do it but decided to after reading one of Randy Kremer's posts. After all, it's only money.

It will be interesting to see how many complete sets they sell during the allotted time period.

Are the Fort Tompkins pieces numbered?

Beats me how most folks will be able to understand the process. Seems it would be easiest to buy just one and spray paint it gold!

Hey Mombo, ...You may have stumbled on to something. We could go into business as "Goldfinger's Custom Lighthouse Painting".

We would probably need to invest in a drill to hollow out the figurines. Once they've been drilled we could melt old wheel weights and put the molten liquid inside to simulate the heaviness of the actual gold pieces.

Possible business slogans:

Bob & Sue are ready for you!

Sue & Bob can do the job!

Our gold is bold, so do not linger. Bring your light to us at Goldfinger!

When can the dealers start giving out vouchers for the regionals and the in-store events? On the in-store events, do they give out the vouchers the day of the event or a week before, a month before or two months before? Do we get a voucher for each MT and LE we buy together or can we buy the LE's after the MT and still get vouchers? For the regionals do we get a voucher for each Fort and any LE we buy at the same time or can we buy the LE's after we buy the Fort and still get a voucher?

I have never been to a signing or a regional before so I am not sure how these things work.

Thanks

Chuck

Chuck, I'll try and answer some of your questions. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong! (That's a sure thing!)

The in-store events are for that day only and you have to be present to win the gold piece. The Regional Events' vouchers should be out now. (My store didn't get theirs yet, so I can't get in the drawing in N.J.) You are to send them in at least ten days before the event if you can't attend it. Only 2 people can win if they don't attend. The others are for the ones who attend the events. I guess all five gold pieces could be won by attendees if the first five names pulled are present. I hope this helps!

Chuck, if you don't get your regional vouchers in time for the 1st, Spring, event you can send up to two each to each of the other 3 events if you are not going to be present. They may be labeled but I believe you just cross out Spring, for instance, and relabel them Summer, Fall, Winter.

Randy, aren't there supposed to be separate drawings for those present and those not present?

You should get a voucher for each piece you purchase, at least for the Regionals. What with participating dealers being able to order all 4 versions of the Fort perhaps they'll have vouchers for the duration? Who knows? Best check with a dealer.

On the individual events where a single MT is given away you are supposed to have to purchase at least one piece. Whether additional pieces get you additional chances I really don't remember.

Your best bet for getting the answers to all your questions would be to call HL to inquire I would think. It is, after all, their show!

Mombo - No separate drawings for those attending and those not. All will be in the same hat. But up to 2 of the winners drawn don't have to be there. Not to say that any non-attendees will necessarily win.
