Hi Bob, ... I viewed the Long Island Lighthouse Exhibit last Sunday. It was very interesting. I'm afraid I won't be able to be there for the 31st. Please tell Bill I said, "Hi." Tell him to stop by the Three Village Inn for breakfast. It's a great place!

Hi Bob M.,
Too bad you weren't at the Three Village on September 18th, my daughter Kristin and my new son-in-law Tim had their wedding reception there!
Outdoor cocktail party and perfect weather!

Hi Bob, ...The Three Village Inn is really a beautiful spot for dining or a function. Kristen & Tim are very lucky to have a reception at such a class place. They got married two days after my birthday so that should bring them good luck! That really is a nice area you live in.

Thanks for the info. I had put in for the day off back in May when I first heard about it. Carole is trying to get me to make a lighthouse costume for her to wear when she sees Bill again...don't know how it will turn out though.

Hi Long Island Bob,

I'm going to try and get to both the Stony Brook exhibit and Huntington Station for the event piece. I've never been to an event. The NJ ones that same weekend are just about as far as LI. I've been wanting to see the exhibit at Stony Brook but don't like the summer traffic. When I realized the exhibit finishes this weekend it made my decision. I'm heading down to LI.
I'm going to call the store tomorrow to find out about the event pieces. I'll also need directions to where on the Stony Brook campus this exhibit is located.
I hope to meet fellow wackos and I am especially looking forward to meeting Bill for the first time.

I'm sorry we are unable to attend as we are busy getting the house ready for new owners to move in, which happens to be the same weekend. Originally we were planning to attend but just had our closing and must sort through 20 years of not throwing much away ("can't throw that away, we may need it someday." When the time comes when you need that something, you forget you have it).

Please say hello to Bill for us We'll be thinking of you, wishing we were there.

Great turnout today as Bill greeted approximately 50 hardcore HL lovers!
Enjoyed meeting some of the WACKOS lighthousing in the Long Island area - Derrith(Fla) and Pam(Tenn) were in the house; as was semilocal Donna(DeDo); Noelle and with daughter Carole (DRESSED as Cape Lookout) stole the show and the heart of BY; and Wildbird. The WACKOS gathered after the BY appearance to tour the LI Lighthouse Exhibit (by Joshua Ruff, Curator), trade war stories, pose for group pictures and vow to meet again in the near future!
Missing in action was LI Stooge Mike Seewald who managed to give Derrith and Pam the grand tour on Friday!
I guess this can be considered the first identified WACKOS meeting with a quorum of 6+
If this is what it is like on the spur of the moment, I look foward to the organized gatherings in the future. " And we did not need no stinkin' badges." LOL
Pictures and other reports to follow...

Bob

I am looking at the photo that was taken of the 6 Wackos that met at Stony Brook. It was too much when I saw BY on the calendar in the very area where Pam and I were visiting. We were able to get some great shots of Old Field Light earlier in the am and then got over to Stony Brook to hear Bill.

My only question to him was when would the Hatteras on the Move be available...Perhaps around the time that the relighting takes place.

I agree with Bob, if the six of us had a great time what must it be like when a true reunion happens.

Meeting Bill and fellow Wackos for the first time certainly overshadowed the later event that day in Huntington. It was so great to put faces with names, Long Island Bob (Scroope), Wildbird (Bob), Derith, Pam & Noelle.
After Bill spoke he signed. I had brought three HLs. My first Yaqina Bay which Bill signed as such and two other favorites. Other people had large plastic crates full of HLs, which seemed like overkill. But since it was my first event I don't know if that is common.
We Wackos then talked and visited the Long Island lighthouse exhibit at the museum at Stony Brook which was ending that day. Very well done.

I agree with you, Donna, about the laundry baskets full of HLs to be signed. It is definitely overkill. I usually have one piece signed and leave it at that. But Bill doesn't seem to mind doing it. He even recommends to collectors that they bring the HLs in that fashion rather than having to remove each one from its box.

IMO: "Signed is nice but not necessary." To each their own, I guess.

Love it, Bob. Thanks for capturing that moment in history. (And for the other shots of the event.)
