Any interest in a WACKO gathering built around the St. Augustine Lighthouse annual event - Saturday, March 17, 2007?
Perhaps a pre- and/or post- event tour?
Not a Harbour Lights Regional Event, but Bill will be there on the 17th and the new First Order Fresnel Lens will be there, too.

I will be there for the Saturday event for sure. Any other festivities will be dependent on what is planned.

I'll be in Oregon myself. Couldn't turn down a chance to spend a night at Heceta Head. Otherwise I would be at St Augie.

I vaguely recall something being posted at one point about it and I also vaguely recall it coincided with a trip I had already planned for NC/SC (which has become SC/FL- but may or may not include St Augustine for the event). Our club Tampa bay Harbour Lights Club chartered a bus and went to St Augustine last year. We may be doing it again this year. Not sure yet. Eric-Weasel--HOW did you arrange a night at Heceta Head. It is so beautiful up there. I would love that! Our club also went on Derith's (Pixie's) West Coast trip a couple years ago. She did a great job arranging it. Don't miss it if you have a chance to go. I would like to do it again but there are so many that I haven't seen yet, that I want to see.

Kay,
No photos can do Heceta Head justice. It is spectacular.
It is a great bed and breakfast. I am sure it has a website.
Plan ahead and GO. It is worth it.
The coolest thing we did was to sit at the base of the tower and watch the "wagonwheel" rotate. Amazing.

Nice picture Paul
Okay lets get back on track.
The original question that John Made is not who is going to St Augustine but who would be interested in a Wacko get together, like a pre- and/or post- event tour?
I will be at the ST Aug event. It would depend on the cost if I am interested in something after or before the Bill younger signeing. Will have my kids there and their friends. It could get pretty costly for me if I had to pay for eight. I would be interested insomething around $25 to $35. If any more I might concider it and would have to pick who goes and who stays.

I am interested but I need to know if we are going to do anything. I need to take a couple of days off from work and save some money and make motel reservations. It is a little bit of a drive from the Memphis,TN area to St Augustine. I have been wanting to go back to Florida and I would love to give my husband a good reason as to why we need to go.

It looks like we will be going to St Augustine in March. The normal route that we would take would take us between 12 and 13 hours. But we are talking about going a different route. We will be going straight down 55 to 10 to see the lighthouses in Mississippi, Alabama, and the panhandle of Florida. Can anyone tell us the best way to see these lighthouses. And how much time to allow, so we can be in St Augustine on time. Eric, I would like to stop at Cape St George on the way. Is there anyone there during the week? Any help anyone can give me will be appreciated.

Well in doing some research on the web. It looks like I will be seeing lighthouses in Alabama and Florida. The hurricanes have taken thier toll in Mississippi. It just reenforces my respect for the lighthousekeepers from the past. The hard live and dedication they had.

I'm just tuning in to this thread. First of all, Derith's trip was scheduled for summer 2007 but she has decided to postpone it until 2008. I plan to be on THAT one, for sure! Second, did Bob Scroope ever tell anyone what's going on in Oregon in March? Third, I think it would be terrific to finally get to St. Augustine for the annual event. Money, money, money! Last, but certainly not least, what a great shot, Paul! Just love it!

What is going on in Oregon in March? A few people are going out to vist a few lighthouses, we are going out to St. George Reef, Punta Gorda, and staying at Heceata Head and Pt. Cabrillo.

I called St. Augustine and talked to Michael today. They are going to have a special closed signing and drinks/finger food Friday the 16th and then a public signing on the 17th.

I got my tickets for the Friday night party with Bill Younger and Harbour Lights. My Bill almost sounds excited about going. He keeps asking how many of my on-line friends are going to be there so we can meet them in person.
It is going to be a busy weekend. My son Justin is coming with us so we can take him to Daytona Speedway. He missed our last trip. And there is a car show that weekend also that they want to go to. Something for everybody to enjoy.

For those who are going; make note that the Space Shuttle Atlantis is scheduled for a launch early in the morning on 3-15. Might be something to see on the way to Augustine. Many years ago, I saw a launch from Ponce de Leon lighthouse - have some photos of the lighthouse and shuttle trail. But it was too far away. If I were going, I'd get down to the Cape Canaveral area. You will NOT be able to get near the lighthouse that day, but you will be able to view the launch from across the water. Of course these schedules can get delayed. Here\'s the place to keep track .

Wish I could go. Unfortunately, I am job hunting, as my job was relocated to Sioux Falls, SD (Not a city where either my husband or I want to move. Not only no lighthouse like Colorado, but only ONE Mall lol). Plus my daughter comes home for spring break March 16.
However, if Harbour Lights does produce special button for the event, if someone would get one for me, I would pay all postage and handling and also a price for your troubles could also be negotiated. Please contact me if willing and able. Thanks!!

Since this is just a store signing and not a regional event there will be no regional buttons, But since Tony has some Atlanta show buttons left over I bet some of them will be passed out. Buttons are given out one to person, but if you ask for an extra for a friend, Bill or who ever hands out the buttons, will give you an extra (if there are enough).

Sadly I will not make it this year to the Saturday signing. Someone else can have my Gold that I was going to win. I have a chance to get Urban Meyers to sign a couple of National Championship footballs for me in Jacksonvile and that must take priority over Bill's signature. Bill will hopefully make another appearance in Florida later on this year but Urban only make one appearance a year.

Well just got back from the dinner will Bill, and must say it was good to see him again. Was able to meet Bill's brotherwho lives in Jacksonville, also meeting Cyndi, her husband Bill, and son Justin was a pleasure. Sean Thompson was there along will Daniel and Rip. Must say I enjoyed meeting the staff of St. Augustine Lighthouse. And must mention meeting Michial Dean Koontz from Daytona Beach,Fl. It was great talking to him and hopefully he will be joining us online soon. I didn't get a chance to meet everyone, but would say everyone enjoyed themselves. Well it will be a full day tomorrow and will try to post some pictures when I get back home.

Party with Bill Younger at the St Augustine Lighthouse
The weather was perfect that we didn’t need Jackets. I like how the folks at St Augustine laid out the Hors d'Oeuvres as a help-yourself. There were only a handful of people, probably somewhere around 20, which six was from my family alone. Bill did his typical signing and gave out thumbnails.
The people at the St Augustine lighthouse provided us with the Sun Set lighthouse climb and the Dark of the Moon Tour. All this kept us very busy. The Dark of the Moon tour was pretty neat. They turn off all the lights in the lighthouse, gave us glow-sticks and let us climb the light. We were suppose to look for ghost, but I have a mutual understanding with ghost, I don’t look for them and they don’t look for me. We then went into the keeper’s house at dark with minimal lighting.
There was a slight shower that we assumed chased everyone away. When we came back to the museum Bill and all the collectors was gone and we still had 15 minutes to 9:00. So I chowed down and enjoyed a private party with just my family.

So close, but ye so far.
Esther and I are in FL right now but we didn't make it to the St. Augustine area. We visited family in Englewood and a friend in the Orlando area.
We may stop at St. Augustine on our way to Jacksonville today- I definitely am going to Amelia Island LH. We got to Boca Grande and Gasparilla Rear Range on Friday.
Glad everybody had a good time- we enjoyed the event at St. Augustine back in 2004.

It was nice to meet you Daniel and it was great to see Twiggy! Bill was his usual self and he looked good! As always it was a pleasure to catch up on old times with him! I hope to make it to some future signings. Indianapolis is still a possibility. Congrats Rip Sean

I have some pictures in the picture gallery.
I had a wonderful time and it was great to meet and talk to Twiggy. I am sorry we did not meet more CF members while we were there. We did not climb the lighthouse this time, my knees were really bothering me and my husband Bill would not let me. I would have anyway if he had not been there and dealt with the pain later. I guess, I am lucky he takes such good care of me. He wanted to go to the car show on Saturday and I told him he could go and I'd walk to the lighthouse, he would not let me do that either. We went to the car show and then to the lighthouse but could not find a place to park. I told him he should have let me walk.
It was great to meet Bill. He seems like a very nice and quiet person. I had taken my Collectors Guide with me for him to sign and bought the Detroit River, and the Minot's Ledge piece at St Augustine for him to sign. Melody, I only got one thumbnail. I would have liked to have gotten two so I could send you one.
