I had the opportunity to tour New Point Loma lighthouse with the Coast Guard before the San Diego Regional Event. After a little confusion about what time we could enter the grounds, we finally were let in around 10:00am. There were 18 of us that toured the grounds and climbed the lighthouse.

There was a very nice Coast Guard captain that had just moved into one of the houses on the property 2 weeks ago. He invited us all in to take a look inside his house. He said the house was used in the movie "Top Gun". (It is the house on the right side of the photo).

The weather was kind of hazy, overcast, so I went back after the regional was over and took a photo looking down at the light from the walk behind Old Point Loma. The sun was out later in the afternoon.

Can you see the people riding the waverunners in the waves behind the lighthouse?

Lorie,

Love that picture. Got any more?

Glad you could get into the place. I had to be satisfied with a few from outside the fence 3 years back.

Here is a few more pictures from the morning at New Point Loma.

This is a picture of Dave Hannum on the top of the tower.

This picture is looking down from on top of the tower. Do you wonder how the boat got stuck in the rocks?

Outstanding pictures Lorie, Glad you shared them. I am moving and had to miss the event and the chance to get into the NPL. Sounds like you had a great tour.

Thank you for sharing your great pictures. I've not been out west yet and I enjoy seeing other's trips to places I've not yet been.

Thanks for your great photos Lori! I.O. says the house where your guide lives is the one the "bitch" lived in when he was out there. She yelled at him for having walked in to take some photos. Well it was his fault as he didn't have his son, who was along and works for the Feds, ask permission first! eek

So yes, please tell us about the boat!

FYI, I believe that thing on the railing above Dave is a fog sensor that can detect fog and turn on the fog signal.

Lorei,

Thanks for the pictures. They're great. I also love it when i get a better view of something I've seen, but not as up close and personal.

Beautiful Pictures, they came out so nice - I could practically reach out and touch them!

Marblehead, Mass. Lighthouse, you will always have a very special place in our hearts. ....We've made the journey as far south as New Jersey, as far north as Canada. Over 100 lighthouses visited.... and so many more to go.
