It is expected that all the tickets will be sold by this weekend.
The dinner will be held on the second floor of the Lighthouse keeper’s house. This in its own is a treat. The second floor is only opened for special occasions. There will be door prizes and one is going to be the golden event piece.

I got two. Ruthie also got 2 just ahead of me. I think they are taking more names and may be able to add some more places at the table.

Give 'em a call now.

This is one of those benefits of being a reader of the Collector Forums. I doubt the invitation cards were mailed by the lighthouse across the country so how else would you have learned about it??

St. Augustine Lighthouse is a FIRST CLASS operation and you can bet this will be a great event and dinner.

The invitation was only sent to St Augustine lighthouse members and those that have purchased from the lighthouse museum. Since it looks like Harbour Lights is going to stay involved with the St Augustine lighthouse festival for a while. I would highly recommend collectors to either become a member or buy from their store.

John,

You could have found out about it by reading the insert that came with the latest lighthouse Legacy that lists the March 19th - Dinner With The Youngers At St. Augustine Lighthouse.

It goes on to state- Contact Michael at the St Augustine Lightouse to reserve your spot.

How's that for staying on topic.

Ok here's a question for John or Paul or someone more directly connected with Harbour Lights-

Has the date of the Regional in Florida been changed.

The insert with the Lighthouse Legacy lists it as the same day as the St Augustine Lighthouse Festival- 3-20-04. The date was listed at 3-21-04 previously here in the forums and confirmed by Harbour Lights as such.

I got this information from Jake Toering who was at the Alpena Lighthouse Festival..

quote:

Heard Kim speak at the Festival. She talked about the two Regional Events next year. 3-21-2004 at St. Augustine and 7-4-2004 at San Franciso at the Lightship Relief.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have since confirmed these event dates with Desireé of Harbour Lights, who is the HL events coordinator

Hi From HL HQ! Just wanted to drop a line about 2004 Regionals. We are putting together the two events in conjunction with existing lighthouse related events. The first Regional, in March, is being put together around the annual St. Augustine Lighthouse picnic/open house event.

The USLHS will be hosting an evening event on the 4th of July and are expecting quite a crowd for the fireworks show that happens right on the water by the ship.

So keep your ears and eyes open because we are going to be putting more energy and time into planning just the two for next year. But as always expected its going to be fun, fun, fun!

Anybody know which is correct- 3-20 or 3-21-04?

I don't have any special connection with Harbour Lights but I have received a post card from the St. Aug Lighthouse stating that the Southeast regional will be on March 20th and the dinner on the 19th.
I have also talked to the coorinadors at the lighthouse and they also told me the same thing.
It sounds like Harbour Lights changed the date.

Good News, I just got off the phone with Rosemary at the Lighthouse gift shop and she said that the tickets were sold out this morning but they have decided to move the "Younger Event" to a tent they are going to erect to accomodate additional people. They are only going to accept another 70 people. That will make it a total of 150 people. So if you haven't called yet because you figured they were sold out go ahead and call them now. wink

For those who will be flying to St. Augustine, this is a great time to begin tracking air fares.

www.Orbitz.com has a neat feature. YOu can set up a proposed trip and then have them email you when the price on the trip drops below an amount you set.

For example, the present RT fare PHX-JAX is $371. I set under $200 as my target price and indicated I'd travel +/- one day in around the 17th of Mar and would leave on the 21 or one day later. If the fare gets below $200 around those days, I'll get an email notification.

This isn't the same as priceline.com. Orbitz is watching for regular discount fares, not trying to negotiate with an airline to sell an otherwise empty seat (as I understand it.)

John,

I just got the postcard from St Augustine about the Festival and the dinner With The Youngers.

I think possibly that HL may have given them some mailing list since I'm not a member and don't recall ever leaving my name on thier list- I was there several years ago, but this is the first mailing I've gotten from them.

Please note that this 'Dinner With The Youngers' program is part of the St. Augustine Lighthouse Festival on Friday March 19. This festival runs Friday-Sunday.

The Harbour Lights Regional Event is on Saturday, March 20. The hours are not set yet, but will be within a few days. It will probably include some kinds of finger foods. HL promises more details soon.

I expect we'll have a photo of the St. Augustine Event piece within a week. I'm told it will be a 'timed' limited edition available from a number of dealers who are supporting the regional event, as with past event pieces around the country.

Stay tuned...

I, too, called yesterday and expected it to be sold out. But, got tickets for Robert and myself, and I am really looking forward to this event. We haven't been to a regional for a few years.

As of just now, 102 tickets have been sold. In talking with St. Augustine Lighthouse this morning, I've found this will be a buffet style dinner with 2 main entres, salads, desserts, etc.

A main reason for moving from the Keepers' Quarter second floor to the tent was ADA. There is no wheelchair access to the upper story. A bonus was the ability to seat up to 150 in the tent.

The weekend event should draw about 5,000 total to visit the lighthouse and museum. Most will probably be locals. Dave H and I can suggest some nearby hotels for those who will be staying over.

I'm with Paul. I'm a little bummed that the dinner will be under canvas instead of the keeper's quarters as originally reported. Oh well ..... will have to make the best of it. WACKOs must be flexible and resilient eek

John,

The person I spoke to said that there will be a list of motels local to the Lighthouse with special pricing included with the tickets to the dinner.

He said it would be mailed out after the first of January. He indicated that some would be in the $50-60 a night range.

Sleep Inn says it is the newest hotel in the area. It is also the closest motel to the lighthouse. Reserve now, and rooms are about $72 per night. Decent hotel - I have stayed there a couple times.

There are several old style (what I would call "Mom & Pop" motels" just down the road that would probably be very reasonable that time of year if you are looking for the very basics.

Hello Everyone,
I am Michael Cunningham with the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum. The dinner with the Youngers is scheduled for Friday, March 19th from 6 to 8 pm. This dinner will be on the grounds of the St. Augustine Light Station. We did have to move the dinner from the keepers' house to the grounds in front of the keepers' house because of American with Disabilites compliance and to accomidate more collectors such as yourselves. I am working on the menu now and will post it when complete, but we will most likely have two main courses, salads, pasta, soup, breads, desserts, and a few suprises. I will see what I can do about the steaks! Our entire site including the lighthouse, the keepers' house, the maritime center, and the gift shop will be open during the dinner event. We may even be able to open the lens room (for the dinner guests only.) You can get a close-up look at our working 1st-order fresnel lens. (Maybe!!!!)

The Lighthouse Festival and Harbour Lights Regional Event will be on Saturday, March 20th, 2004. The festival begins at 11 am and ends at 6 pm with food, music, a 5k run, pony rides, tours, games, a live radio broadcast and much more. The Harbour Lights Regional Event will begin at 12 noon and end at 3 pm. We are still working out many of the details and more information will follow.

We have less than 50 tickets left for the dinner and are expecting to sell out in the next couple of weeks. For those of you that are attending the dinner, I will be mailing out information packages after the 1st of the year. These packages will include more detailed information on accomodations, things to do in St. Augustine (our nations oldest city), the latest word on the dinner, the festival and the regional event.

I am very excited to be hosting this spectacular event! I will do my best to answer any and all questions. I can be reached at michael@staugustinelighthouse.com or (904) 829-0745. Also, you do not have to be a member of the lighthouse or buy Harbour Lights from us to receive our mailings. If you would like to be included on our mailing list just let me know, we only send out once or twice a year. I look forward to meeting all of you in March.
Sincerely,
Michael Cunningham

Hi Everyone,
I wasn't sure if Larry and I were going to be able to go to the dinner since I waited so long to call Rosemary but, she just happen to have a few more tickets and so we will both be there. We are so looking forward to seeing familiar faces as well as meeting new ones. Friday evening sounds like it will be wonderful...does anyone know if the dress is casual or a little more spiffy??
Hey Dave H., thanks for the info on the sleep inn, we made our reservations there. Although I was thinking it would be fun to rent a beach house for the weekend...we can always cancel our hotel reservations if anyone is interested. I did some checking and there are places available that time of the year that you can rent by the day.
Hey Mombo, are you serious about the 5K run?? If you are let me know, I will step up my workouts and maybe we can enter together.
See everyone there....should be a great weekend!!!

A week in Florida 5 days with Mickey and 3 days with Wackos. All and all, I think I'm just nuts.

Looks like the lighthouse year is going to starting off right smile

Any update on the photo of the event piece. Also, would I be able to order one from the St Augustine Lighthouse giftshop to be signed during the event?

Sorry, no photo and the main office is closed until Jan 5.

Yes, you can contact the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum gift shop and pre-order the piece, have it signed and shipped to you after the event.

I just called the gift shop and they do not know the cost yet, but have a picture. I'll try and get that photo in the next few days.

Does anybody know if there is a chance that we may be able to get a tour of the Cape Canaveral Light on Sunday? I know it is in a secured area, but I was just wondering?

Jim, that sounds great. Maybe someone will arrange it, and since Robert and I have not seen any of the lighthouses in Florida, that would make our trip.

Got me thinking about flying into Key West and motoring up the coast to St. Augustine. I've not seen any of those lights south of Cape Canaveral so it could be a great time. Anyone else interested in hooking up and sharing the car rental expenses?

If you get to Key West John you should split the cost of renting a small plane for a trip out to Loggerhead and Dry Tortugas lights (65 miles west of Key West but not long via plane). You can get some neat aerial photos of them before heading east and north to St. Augustine (and the lighthouses in between).

MJ & I, along with friends Ron & Shirley Drummer, are very interested in a visit to Cape Canaveral.

You know, I wasn't planning on making the trip. But if it somehow gets worked out that Cape Canaveral is opened for a tour, I think I'll have to come.

I would also be very interested in any Cape Canaveral tours. Dave and I have not had a chance to tour Fla lighthouses yet and since my parents have agreed to potentially babysit (see our little family in the latest Lighthouse Legacy (p.9 I think) I would love to spend some quality time with the Wackos.

Hope everyone had a lovely New Year. laugh

John
John I've been sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the picture of this piece for the last week and a half. Not sure how much longer I can hold out.... wink

OK, so you missed a great chat. We had about 18 people there last night. But, guess you can still get a peek.

I just took a peek at the two event pieces for 2004. The St. Augustine looks like a GLOW, at first glance. That's not a bad thing because GLOWs are very well sculpted. If it was a GLOW, I wouldn't be buying it. Since it's an event piece, I will buy it. I hope it's not smaller like the current GLOWs. I would prefer a full size piece.

The Lightship "RELIEF", (How do you spell relief?...R-O-L-A-I-D-S), looks great and I will definitely purchase that one too. Will it be considered a part of the Anchor Bay line as an event piece? Does anyone have the dimensions on either piece?

Quick, funny story that happened to me recently... Over the holidays, I attended a family wedding reception at the Riverside Yacht Club in Greenwich, CT. Well, I was there for about an hour before..."mother nature called".

So, I leave the reception room to go look for the bathroom. I looked around where the ladies room was (I stopped there with my wife when we first arrived) and I didn't see it. So, I start my search around the place and I can't find it ANYWHERE. So, after a few minutes, I found myself back in the reception room and I told my wife of my problem. She told me that her father had the same problem and that he eventually found it. She told me to "go look for the door with a ship on it".

I went back out into the hallway and, sure enough, after a few minutes of looking...I FOUND IT. And, to my surprise, on the door was a small replica...of the Lightship Relief!!! I guess it was someone's funny idea to put it on the door of the bathroom, since it says "RELIEF" on the side of it. Needless to say, I had a good laugh...

Rachael is scrambling to get me the dimensions. The RELIEF has an HL number because it is an event piece, not an AB number.

I spoke with the people at St. Augustine lighthouse this morning, they have passed the 150 mark in reservations for the "Dinner with the Youngers" and will continue to take reservations.

They'll expand the dinner to accomodate those who want to attend; but I'm not sure if there is a maximum or not.

My best advice would be to get your reservations in ASAP anyway.

I haven't gotten the dimensions yet on these two pieces, but I did find out that the lantern room in St. Augustine is CLEAR. The piece is NOT lighted, but the lantern room is clear. That'll be a first for Harbour Lights.
