First of all, I would like to thank everyone who participated.
There were 81 in total who voted, making a total of 810 votes cast. After spending about two hours today tallying up the votes,
the undisputed winner is Thomas Point with 38 votes. I trust and hope that I counted correctly, but anyone is welcome to double-check.
Here are the results.
The Top Ten are as follows:
1-Thomas Point---------------38
2-Hillsboro------------------26
3-White Shoal----------------25
4-Rose Island----------------23
5-Cape Florida---------------23
6-Sanibel Island-------------23
7-New Point Loma-------------22
8-Cape Canaveral-------------21
9-Hudson-Athens--------------20
10-Alcatraz-------------------20

And before anyone asks.
The second ten (11-20) were:
11-Old Cape Henry(19)
12-S E Block Island(18)
13-Big Bay Point(17)
14-Point Fermin(17)
15-Gay Head(16)
16-Point Arena(15)
17-Stonington(14)
18-Sea Girt(14)
19-Assateague(13),
20-Old Field, Pemaquid Point, Tillamook, and Currituck (12 each)

Again thank you to all for your participation.

I'm a little surprised at the final results too. Many of my top 10 favorites don't appear on the list. That's okay...thank you for taking the time to do the poll.

Glad Hudson-Athens made the top 10. With all that WOWing something would be wrong if it hadn't!

Thanks, Mike, for your time to compile these results. Maybe we should now pick one of the 10?

Hudson-Athens!

If we were to compare the top 20 from the 81
respondents against the top sellers in dollars I think we would find that the Forums top 20 reflects a better geographic cross section. This is the nice "surprise"

WOW.... Only one North Carolina and Maryland
light made the list.Another surprise is Both Virginia lights (my home state)made the top 20.

I'd be curious to know the average number of models owned by each voter and what year they started collecting.

I own 161,started collecting in 1996. Eight of my top 10 made in to the top 20. It was still very hard to narrow down to my favorite top 10. I find I like some pieces more at different times especially if I have just visited that particular lighthouse.

Very interesting cross section. I was pleased to see 4 of my top 10 make the list.

For HLs such as Thomas Point and Alcatraz, does that include both the LE and the GLOW, or just one of them?

Hillsboro...number 2?! Geez, just 'cause it's bigger doesn't make it better IMHO...give me a 5500 Coquille, Burrows Island, Key West, or Minot's Ledge any day...

Well, I quess I'm with the majority on this one. 7 out of my 10 were in the top 20. I can't believe that only one of the NC lights made the list. Lookout, Bodie Island and Bald Head are really great lights. But to each his on.

As I mentioned in last nights chat, I think that the East Quoddy was released to close to the Oscar nominations going out and some of the voting members of the Academy had not had the opportunity to even hold an East Quoddy in their own hands.

I agree with you Paul. East Quoddy did get 10 votes and I believe that it would have gotten more had more people actually seen it in person. It is quite a nice piece.

To answer JeffB's question:
The count for Thomas Point and Alcatraz was for the LE only.

Thanks for all the work Mike. Certainly was tough trying to highlight just 10 HL. Would be interesting to know some of the "reasoning" folks used in making their selections. I would imagine not just the beauty of the piece, but also sentimental reasons.

While I didn't get a chance to vote, the results come as no big surprise to me. The Top 20 are all very nice pieces and I can certainly understand their appeal to people...but what about Seven Foot Knoll???

Thanks Mike for all your work and the original idea of voting.

I've added a catalog page that shows all 10 items. You can click on each thumbnail and view a larger image in a new window.

John, what a great page. Love the pictures. Makes me want more. Having to hold back on buying, purchased 21 (3 of them on the top 10)in about a 2 month period. But the page is great, glad you added the pictures.

Hi! A belated thank you to Mike for all the work on the 'top ten" and also to John for the great photo page. I, too, was a little surprised by some of the picks, or maybe more by some of the conspicuous absences, but all the top twenty picks represent some great lights.

For Tim - I participated in the voting, have about 120 lights and started collecting in late 1996.

Thanks, Joanne, for bringing it back. I wasn't around when the poll was taken but if I had been I would have listed "Thomas Point" as my No.1 choice, as well. Maybe the poll should be conducted once a year.

I agree...with new lights constantly arriving, opinions will change! American Shoal has already become one of my stunners!

I would also like to thank John for all the hard work. Thomas Point has always been one of my favorites. I thought Alcatraz would have been a little higher in the list, but to each his/her own! I also think it would be a great idea to do this again next year. I'm waiting to see Cape Henlopen myself!

I agree that this should be an annual event on the forum. With the increase quality of the pieces each year, I think there would be some of the new releases showing up on the list. Oak Island, and American Shoal would surly be there.
