I just got word that my 18 mo. old Granddaughter "Lilly" was put in the Hospital today. She has been having Secure like episodes for the last two weeks and was taken to the Dr. for the first time today. The Dr. had her admitted to the hospital right away after doing a cat scan. She has a brain tumor on the right lobe. Don't know yet what they are going to do. But the Dr. is talking about surgery A.S.A.P.

Please pray for her!

I will keep you posted as I get more information. As you might guess by my lack of posts lately, I'm not home, nor have I been for several months now. At least for not more then a few hours at a time. I didn't even know about the secures until my son called me on their way from the Doctors office to the Hospital yesterday. When I got the call I was and still am on a Bus Tour to San Antonio, TX with a group of Senior Citizens. I will be getting home tomorrow. At which time I will be heading straight to the Hospital. I'll try to update you tomorrow night, (if I have time, I don't know what tomorrow will bring).

What I have been told by phone today is that they did the MRI today and the tumor is ruffle 3 1/2 inches long by 1 1/4 inch thick. That seems way too big to me as her brain can't be much bigger then that itself. (Remember she is only 18 months old.) And that she is schuled for surgery at 7am Monday. The Dr. told my son that Lilly could have some brain damage and or loss of motor controls from the surgery.

As you can imagine my son was in hysterics and crying while he was talking to me (he is only 21). And I can only imagine how this has effected Victoria my Daughter-in-law, as many of you will remember that it was only a few months back that Victoria found her Mother after she had committed Suicide. And now this, how much can one young girl take!!!!!!!!!!

I am a firm believer in the power of prayer. So PLEASE continue to pray for this young family!

I'm thinking and praying for Lilly. This is a terrible time for you and your family, but make sure you know that we're all behind you and supporting you.

You, your son and daughter-in-law and especially Lilly will be in my prayers. God bless and guid those who are caring for Lilly and provide comfort to her family.

Lilly made it through surgery this morning. But if you ask me how did it come out, I don't know how to answer. Good or Bad? She came out alive! But is paralyzed on the left side of her little body. The Dr. had to take out far more of her brain cells then he had wanted to in order to get all of it!

They tell us that she may regain some of her motor skills on that left side after the swelling goes down, but no guaranties as to how much. She will be in ICU for several days. Will know more in a few days.

Small steps, Stephanie. Good news that the doctor was able to get the tumor removed. Hopefully as the swelling goes down things will improve for Lilly. Like I said before, you have a lot of people in your corner right now.

Several years ago in a brain rehab facility, a nun told me that inch by inch everything's a cinch. It's an old saying with tons of meaning.

One never knows how these things will turn out, but with her being so young, time is on her side.

That's good news, Steph... Time will heal as will all the prayers being sent Lilly's way. People she doesn't even know are sending prayers.

Glad to hear she made it out. Just look at it one step at a time - she made it through the surgery. That in itself is a blessing. God willing, she'll be able to regain as much of her motor skills as possible as soon as possible.

Just look at it in little chunks, like the little broken bits of the cookie that stuck to the baking sheet. Even though they may not seem perfect right now, when you eat them, they still taste just as great as the rest of them.

They sent Lilly home today!!!!!!! Will remove the stitches tomorrow at the Dr.'s office. Got the lab report this morning and all is well, no Kemo required (PRAISE THE LORD)! She will have to go through a lot of therapy to learn to use the left side of her body again. But they do say that she will slowly regain at least most of the uses of her limbs in time.

Thank you ALL for your prayers, GOD has answered them!

Pray now for a fast recovery of the use of her left side, but she is out of trouble as far as the tumor is concerned.

An up-date on Lilly

It's been 3 years now sence Lilly's surgery. And though she has regained a lot of use of that left side of her body, she still has no control of her left hand. She can hold things to her body by pressing it between the arm and torso. But the hand itself is useless. And she still walks (and runs) with a limp, as the knee and ankle don't respond as they should.

She has been going to therapy once a week for three years now. And up to Birmingham, Al to UAB (University of Alabama, Birmingham) once every 6 mo.s for Botox tretments. And has been to the "Shriner's Hospital" in Shreport, LA twice.

Now starting Monday morning she will be at UAB for 3 full weeks of in-house therapy treatments. She and her mother will be staying at the "Ronald McDonald House" while in Birmingham.

So we will continue to pray for this brave little darling!!!!

We will keep Lilly and her whole family in our prayers!

I didn't look at the dates on this thread and was in tears of sadness as I read through all that CF members had to say. When I got to the picture of that beautiful child I burst out in a very sloppy laugh.

The latest addition to my family is "Sam". My daughter and her partner are in the process of adopting this absolutely delightful boy from Ethiopia. His first birthday was February 12th and he has a mild case of cerebral palsy on his right side, the result of oxygen depravation during birth. His mother died during delivery and he would have been shunned by the people of his village had he remained in Ethiopia, especially since his CP affected his right side. The right side is held to some higher standard by the tribe he was born into. In any event, Jean and Elizabeth are focussed on his physical therapy and every new strength he exhibits is cause for celebration.

Children are resilient, moreso than the adults are--Lily has another surrogate Grandma praying for her courage to accept the things she cannot change and the strength to change what she can. God bless. . . .
