Paul's better half will be having back surgery on Monday. Please keep Sue Brady in your thoughts and prayers.

She is having a somewhat complicated procedure to fuse several lower vertebrate that were compressed in a fall she took at son Chad's home a couple of weeks ago.

We're extremely saddend to hear the news of Sue's injury. We are very familiar with back problems and the surgery necessay to correct them. My oldest son, Sean. fought a work related injury for a year and a half before he had his surgery. He was in constant pain. After surgery he was only allowed to stand, sit, or walk for no more than 5 minutes every 2 hours the first week. The second week went to 10 minutes each time. The third week went to 15 minutes each time. At the end of the fourth week he was allowed to walk to the end of his driveway and back. Things got better from there.

I'm happy to say he has had a full recovery and went back to work in January. He feels good and is very glad to put that health crisis behind him.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Sue. Do what the Doctors tell you and you'll be as good as new in no time.

Paul and Sue, our prayers are with you. I had a 2-level fusion, L4 & L5, in 1997, and have not had a back pain since. It will be rough, but you will definitely feel better after your recovery.

We sure are thinking of you Sue and Paul. I know what you are going through. My best friend had that same procedure after months of those worthless Cortizone shots for the pain. He says that the surgury made him feel like a new man. Good luck and wishing you a speedy recovery.

I've been corrected on the procedure Sue is having Monday. It's not a fusion. It's a relatively new procedure.

You can read about it here. (There's even an animated illustration of how it works.)

I got a call today from Paul. He reports the procedure went extremely well. Sue should be home this evening, flat on her back for 24 hours or so.

Thanks to everyone from Paul and Sue for your prayers and thoughts.

Sue wanted me to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers.. The doctor said she was a very good patient and the procedure went as planned..

It has been a long day since we checked in at 6:00AM and just got home around 6:00PM, but well worth it to ease the pain she has had since she fell.. She is to stay prone most of the time through tomorrow and no bending forward for a week and she isn't to lift anything over 5 lbs for a while... Maybe that means I will be able to hold Chloe some the next time we see her..

I did manage to inject a little Valentines into Sue's day as I got a box of chocolates and two red roses in a vase at the hospital gift shop.. It brightened her day!

Thanks once again for all the prayers...

Paul,

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear that everything went well. Please keep us posted as to how she's prgressing. We will continue to keep her in our prayers and hoping for a quick recovery. I'm sure it will be great to be able to hold Chloe for a while. Take advantage of the opportunity.

Glad to hear everything is okay. Take advantage of this "Chloe time" - once Sue gets back on her feet, she'll be 18 before you ever get to hold her again! laugh

Great news, Paul. So glad Sue is doing well so far.

I wonder what will be the bigger incentive for her to get back to 100%: being able to hold Chloe again, or the fact that you will be her primary care giver for a while . . .

Sue received a very pretty bouquet of flowers, delivered this morning.. The timing couldn't have been better as she not only has a stiff and sore back from the surgery but some how she got a sore throat and cold.. Plus I think cabin fever has set in with her as she has been doing a little of her work at home but mostly just resting..

The card was just signed "from your lighthouse family". So thanks lighthouse family and once again Sue and I would like to thank everybody for their thoughts and prayers..

It's good to hear Sue is now on the road to recovery. Just make sure she doesn't try to do to much to soon. Rest is an important part of recovering from back surgery.

She is finally getting rid of her cold, sore throat and cough (have you ever tried to recover from back surgery and have a cough?) She has her follow up appointment on Wednesday and I will post the results. Enough time will have passed for the doctor to know how good the surgery did it's job..

Paul and Sue,

Glad to hear the surgery went well and the recovery is going good. Having had two back surgeries for disc problems I know exactly what you are going through. After the second surgery last February, I was flat on my back for 10 days. Trust me, it does get better.

Glad the operation went well and Sue is feeling a bit better.

Knowing that there is a little Chloe out there for her is probably one of the best things for her recuperation. The body/mind can heal many things when there is a strong will to do so. Although the timing of the operation may seem to have been at the worst possible moment, it may have been a blessing in disguise. She now has a little guardian angel to help her pull through.
