Morning all

If this is old news, I apologise. Don't read these boards as frequently as I used to. Don't know where all the time goes.

Anyway, received an email this AM that the Pharos Collection has been scrapped completely - all backorders cancelled. Reason was based on Quality not adhering to HL Standards.

Now the hunt will be on for the few pieces that were sent to England. I know I'll be calling a few of my good customers there this morning to see if they can locate any.

John,

Is this true? If so, what made the Pharos line so much more difficult to produce than the HL's line? Were they using different factories?

Thanks for the info Terry. This is not good news though! I was looking forward to getting these pieces after seeing them at the Rosemont show!

This is very disappointing indeed. I must admit that I was looking forward to receiving my Pharos collection. I wonder what direction HL will head towards now? I applaud HL for scraping the project and not allowing an inferior product hit the streets.

Morning Again

Here is the email I received. I am also extremely disappointed in the loss (for now???) of this collection. I had well over a dozen customers waiting anxiously.

From: Kim Andrews
Re: Pharos Collection

Thank you for your patience in awaiting news of the delivery of the Pharos
Collection Lighthouses ( Trwyn Du, Bell Rock, Ballinacourty, Portland Bill
and Needles) After many long months of waiting, our shipment of new product
has finally arrived, and sadly, the entire shipment FAILED our routine
Quality Control Inspection. We are tremendously disappointed, and know you
share our frustration, and so, as a result, we have decided to table the
Pharos Collection for the time being. We apologize sincerely for the
terribly long wait, and especially for the disappointment of not being able
to satisfy pending orders after all this time. Our commitment to top
quality merchandise must continue to come before our desire to ship product,
and we greatly appreciate your understanding and support.

We will let you know if and when the Pharos Collection becomes available in
the future. We are now canceling all pending orders for these 5 items,
PC101, PC103, PC104, PC105, and PC107.

www.harbourlights.com/Pharos/index.htm

In a separate communication to Reps, Harbour Lights has discouraged dealers and collectors from seeking out the few Pharos pieces that made their way to English dealers.

Quote:
...we wish to DISCOURAGE our dealers and collectors from hunting for the Pharos available in the UK. These pieces are not up to our product standards, and we are concerned that if a dealer or collector goes to great effort and expense to acquire them, they will only be disappointed as the end result....

...We find mold deterioration, warping of towers, poor paint application and colors, as well as messy fingerprints on the pieces. We made the decision that these pieces, as produced, could not be shipped to our dealers...

Afternoon All

I hadn't seen this email that John posted before - but knowing how rare these could be, I'm curious how many of you would pass these up if you came across them? I know I'd grab them. Anyone else???

Well, my boss will be happy to learn that I won't have to route him through the UK on his next business trip - regardless of what his destination. Could have been a long trip to Houston.

If I came across one would I buy it - absolutely.

I am very disappointed that the Pharos line for now, has been scrapped. I liked the look of all the pieces and especially liked the scale. I'm also curious about why the trouble with all the pcs. in the line. Was HL's experimenting with a new factory and if so, I hope they are not doing any of the new pieces coming out.
I hope, at a later date they try again. Sure would like one of those AP's hidden down in my Christmas stocking.

I also am very disappointed that this has happened. I really liked the size also, plus I like a lot of the International lighthouses and was looking forward to the Pharos line.

I also am disappointed for the fine people who are Harbour Lights, the Younger family and employees, who have undoubtedly put in long hours and a big investment to bring the Pharos line "online". Once again though, it points out that they hold their standards very high even when it obviously will be a very expensive decision on their part.

I for one commend them for putting their pride in the quality of their product first above profit and I surely hope that they will be able to continue the Pharos line in the future.

Well, at least we now know

"The Fate of the Pharos"

Collection.

I applaud HL for their decision. I will still
be looking forward to the appearance of the Pharos Collection in the future. It will probably be the closest I will ever get to any international lighthouses.

Look at the bright side. We saved some money and some space for the 2001 pieces. Although I am also disappointed that the Pharos have been tabled. And not a good start to the beginning of the overseas market for HL!

I wonder if it would be possible to see some photos of the poor quality that HL was talking about. That's probably a "no-no" but I'm curious anyway.
While I'm at it...I want to praise HL for maintaining such a high standard....it had to be a tough decision to scrap the whole line....but....I guess that's why they're No.1 in the business.

I give Harbour Lights a big thumbs up for wanting quality. It is a commodity that is often overlooked at the expense of the customer. That's why I love this company.

Wow, think about all the money that Harbour Lights has probably invested in this already! I am sorry that they have halted the production, but I too applaud their decision to only turn out a quality product.
