My first granchild was to be due on 12-10. We knew it was going to be a boy. Well around 2 weeks ago my daughter in law went to the docter and had a test and they determined that the baby was 11 lbs 7 oz. I dont know how they figure it but in any case it was comming early. I left last sunday and drove from Charlotte to Illinois. We got there on Monday 12-3 just in time to see them get out of recovery. John Charles Dollinger born 12-3-07 10lbs 3 oz and was the smallest of 3 10 pond babies . One was 10 4 the other 10 7. He is doing well. I had to leave on Sat. to go home. It was hard to leave. I will post a picture as soon as I can. It was so cold there we had 6" of snow. Now I am home and it is 75 out.

Congratulations and welcome to the world of grandparenthood! There is nothing more special in this world than a grandchild. Before my granddaughter was born, I thought it might be pretty neat to have a grandchild, but it's WAY beyond neat! At this stage in our lives, we realize how fleeting time is. When our own children were younger, we had no idea how quickly they would grow up. We were so busy with work, and life in general, that the years went by with the blink of an eye. Now with our grandchild, (that's Madison and me in the avatar), we have learned to stop and smell the roses, make each day we spend with her a special one. Luckily, my son and daughter-in-law live in the next town and we have Maddy over all the time! How fortunate we really are, as she has brightened our lives more with every day! Savour the days with your grandchild. They really are God's special gift.

Congratulations, Franny!! It is so terrific being a grandparent. It's true that children grow up so quickly, we hardly have a chance to appreciate them as we should. I've had another chance with my only grandchild and we have been very close. Now he is a college freshman, but, somehow, I think we will always have a very special bond. Many good wishes for your grandbaby to have a long and very healthy and happy life! And I agree with Sandy, you look too young to be a grandma!!

Gee, Fran, had you planned better you could have joined us just down the road for our annual club Christmas gathering! You will have to tell the kids the schedule next time . . . .
Glad you all had a safe trip up and back. I have to imagine your daughter-in-law was glad to have her son - sounds like a really good sized baby. And to be the smallest one of the crowd... Glad to hear that mother and son are doing well. Congratulations to all.

Sandy for the first time in my life I wish I was 65 to retire and stay at that age for ever. I would love to travel to see my grandchild and if a lighthouse is near that would be heaven. He is going to grow up with me and travel and lighthouses. I might have to kidnap him from the kids. Most grandfathers buy baseball stuff, I am looking to get him a starter camera
