I am thankful for my mother who is 87 and for my two girls who will help me celebrate this year.

Becky has been a proud mom this week. Ryan our son's 19th birthday on the 5th, Voted Prom King also on the 5th and last night he was awarded 2 scholarships (including the Sprint Technology Award) which will come in very handy when he starts Purdue Univ. this fall. Her head's so big right now that I have to squeeze her through the door!

I want to wish all you moms out there a Happy Mother's Day. This is an especially happy one for me since my mother received a clean bill of health after a recent breast cancer scare.

Digger, great news on your son. I'm sure you're doing a little squeezing of your own through doors. Let's hear it for another teenager with a bright future!

WHEN YOU THOUGHT I WASN’T LOOKING

When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator,
And I immediately wanted to paint another one.

When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw you feed a stray cat,
And I learned that it was good to be kind to animals.

When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw you make my favorite cake for me,
And I learned that little things can be special things in life

When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw you make a meal and take it to a friend who was sick,
And I learned that we all have to help take care of each other.

When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw you give of your time and money to help those without,
And I learned that those who have should share with those who don’t.

When you thought I wasn't looking,
I felt you kiss me goodnight,
And I felt loved and safe.

When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw you take care of our house and everyone in it,
And I learned to take care of what we are given.

When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw how you handled responsibilities when you didn’t feel good,
And I learned that I would have to be responsible when I grow up.

When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw tears come to your eyes,
And I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it was ok to cry.

When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I learned most of life’s lessons that I need to know
In order to be a good and productive person.

When you thought I wasn’t looking
I looked at you and wanted to say “Thanks for all the things I saw
When you thought I wasn’t looking”.
