Thanks Sue for the reminder. I am in a high school setting this summer and wore my flag vest today in honor of the flag. I greeted everyone this morning with "Happy Flag Day" and most did not know such a day was set aside to honor the flag.

Back in the old days when I used to work I would remind everyone a couple days before and ask them to wear red, white and blue. Worked pretty well and it was fun to see us all decked out. Can't remember when I started it but it continued for many years. One year my boss at the time came up with a red sport coat. Guess I've always been a wacko!

My flag flys all the time too. The one in the picture is the one I mentioned previously that I found in my uncle's house after he died. It, however, is not flying today as the clothes line was old like the flag and when it got soaked from one of the numerous rainstorms we've had the whole works wound up on the ground. I have another 48er that was on my grandfather's casket but thats a keeper. He died in the 50's and had been in the Spanish American war.

Flag Day was always special in our family.
We were sure to fly the flag at our house. What made the day very special was that it was my Mom and Dad's wedding anniversary. My Dad passed away just before Christmas 1998. Today would have been their 53rd anniversary.

Mombo, with your ties to West Point, I'm surprised that you didn't memntion that the Army's birthday is also celebrated today. 225 years if I recall correctly.

West Point doesn't and never did seem to furnish much information of what was/is going on to parents of cadets/alumni. Must be top secret stuff. All my son and I get in the mail is offerings of stuff to buy. Had to laugh at the last one, a replica of Mitchie Stadium on a wooden base, ala CSC. I believe it was around $70 but the literature didn't even tell you what material it was made from. Needless to say I declined. Now if they were to make the former lighthouse...?

Sue, they do the football stadium for all the big schools. I got one for Ross-Ade Stadium at Purdue & have seen others.

I love that photo, Sue.

A touch of love in the way you display the flag.

It would make a great post card.
