Do any of you recognize the topic of this thread, "Coton de Tulear"? Well if you do then you now know what Lorna and I have added as a new family member.

The latest addition to our family is "Cosmo". He is a 12-week old Coton de Tulear. He currently weighs five pounds and should weigh approximately 9-15 pounds when full grown. He is a tri-colored Coton. This breed has hair instead of fur.

Don't feel bad if you never heard of the breed. They are from Madagascar and have only been in this country for around twenty years.

Lorna was on the Net early Saturday morning and was searching "dogs small breed" when a picture of a Coton popped up. She instantly fell in love. A further search revealed very few breeders in this country, but as luck would have it, two of them were in Rhode Island. Needless to say, we visited both on Saturday and met nine Cotons, 5 adults and 4 puppies.

I just couldn't believe what a beautiful animal they are. Every one of them came right over to us, jumped in our laps and just wanted to be held.

The bad news was all the pups were spoken for. The good news was a couple from LINY were suppose to pick up the last pup today (Sunday) and then decided to wait for the next litter. Needless to say, we left the deposit and will fetch "Cosmo" on Wednesday night.

We would have loved to take him home today but we both will be working tomorrow and didn't want to just get the pup home then leave him alone the next day. I'm off Thursday and Friday, and Lorna is off Friday through Sunday. That will afford us the opportunity to introduce "Cosmo" to his new surroundings in a more appropriate manner.

Yes, we are excited! We miss our "Chipper" very much but "Cosmo" will help with that. We are dog people and have found that even being without a dog for a week was one week too long.

No pictures to share yet but wait until the end of the week!

No pictures of "Cosmo", but lots of pictures of his brothers and sisters on Google Images .

Cute. Congrats to "Mom & Dad". It's a cotton ball!

They're so CUTE! I'm not a dog person (actually, I'm dog-phobic), but these are adorable! I agree, it's like a little cotton ball...a loveable, cute, cuddly cotton ball!

Can't wait to see pictures of Cosmo... smile

What an old "softie" you are Bob. Bet I could talk you out of a speeding ticket if I had a puppy in the car with me.

Bob,

I am anxiously waiting to see a picture of your "Cosmo". I also am an avid dog lover. At one time when living in Connecticut, I raised Lasa Alpsos. Also trained them for show. The most I had at one time was 12. Your dog should bring you much joy.

Bob, it is easy for me to understand why you decided to get another dog...When my sweet "Molly" (springer spaniel)went to doggie heaven, I thought I could not bear to get another dog right away. Within a month I was already looking and by two months I had found my now sweet puppy "Lady." (springer spaniel) Life seems incomplete without a dog in our house. I'm happy for you and Lorna and I'm sure you will enjoy Cosmo when he comes. laugh

Tonight is the night. "The Cosmo Kid" officially becomes a family member around 1900 hours tonight! Lorna doesn't get home from work until around 1800 hours. Then we have about a 45 minute ride to fetch him. As Lorna put it, "I'm beyond excited!"

I'm thinking of starting a new thread titled "The Cosmo Chronicles". I have received a few emails from other dog lovers who have lost a pet and they are somewhat curious to see how I make out with a new puppy. Watch for the new thread and find out how Lorna and I make out with our latest addition to the family.
